Sparco wheel fitted

  53' 172 Cup
Just fitted my new sparco wheel today and was going all good until i connected the horn up and reconnected the battery...a lot of smoke suddenly came from the wheel/boss, so i disconnected the battery again and took off the horn to see what was happening. i think i had put the wires on the wrong terminals or something cos the +ve wire had fried! i got a new piece of wire and connected the horn again (this time the right way) and reconnected the battery. no smoke so i pressed the horn to see if it worked....loads of smoke again!!! this time the entire length of the +ve wire has melted! iv no idea what im doing wrong, doing exactly what it says to in the instructions for the wheel etc.??? can someone help....???

hmm, sounds to me like the wire is far to thin to take the power running through it.

is the connecting wire thinner than the wire coming from the actual car?

so what do you reckon i should do?? cant see where it wold be shorting although there is a bit of metal the is in the horn housing which i think touches the metal of the wheel when installed...Can you pass an MOT without your horn working?

I reckon you should do a straight swap with my dynamique wheel.

My horn doesn't work so I wouldn't have the problems.

Deal?

Partially related. When I was doing work experience at a small computer shop, I built a computer (a blind nymphet could do that with one hand but that's not the point) and when I switched it on, the wire to the buzzer suddenly melted causing a lot of smoke..

I've seen it happen a few times, could even be a faulty horn somehow. Not sure what causes it.
