spare key needed!

  Renault Clio 1.2L 16
I've recently bought a car.. but it only has one key...

Asked few friends and they said i have to go to the dealer to make another key..

So I took a trip to my local dealer ask for some prices... And the service man killed me ... He said it's £180 for a new key and programmed to my car!

Is there like a company who specialise in this stuff? So I can knock some number of that? Any recommendations? Or is it best to get it all done by Renault?

Thanks

Cheapest way:

Ebay a virgin key: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-BUTTON-...-II-2001-2008-KANGOO-2002-2004-/301345858875?
( You want the PCB from inside!)
Take it to Timspons and ask if they will cut the key if they agree its like £10 if they refuse and make you buy a new key its £25.

Then take it to a local garage that can program the key, Ring a few up first.
It cost me £23 to have mine programmed, But the normal price seems around £50.

So over all it can cost from £70 - £100.

Yes takes longer and means you do some running about, but you save some money

Not sure about the 200's, but the mk2 keys cannot be reprogrammed, the memory on the PCB board inside the key can only be written to once.

To the best of my knowledge (for mk2's), the issue isn't necessarily with reprogramming the key anyway, as the immobiliser can be reprogrammed with Renault diagnostics to accept the remote fobs you have and you then just replace the key blade with a copy of one of your original keys. Though I am not sure how much (if any) of that would be relevant to a 200 as they have a different keyless entry system don't they?

Edit: This is for a 197, but I think they use the same system and so may well be relevant for you: http://www.clio197.net/forum/showth...ement-Key-Card&p=466604&viewfull=1#post466604 . It's also worth noting if you go to a dealership to have a new key programmed, make sure they reprogram your existing one at the same time, as when they hook up to program the new one, they clear all the old codes. If they don't reprogram your old key to be accepted, it will be useless and you'll still have 1 key, albeit new and shiny.

What I did was go to timpson on the high street, costs from 30-40 that will have a chip in which will be matched to your existing key, it won't have a remote button so youll have to use the door key hole but no need for any garages to sort it because it doesn't have a remote

I think my is bit different... I've only got central locking when I lock with the key (key hole on the pasanger door) it will only lock my passagner door and the boot and driver door remains unlocked ... I have 2003 Clio 1.2l 16v

I have yet not figured out how to lock all doors with just the key...

P.s I can click my central locking on my dash and get out through passanger door and lock that door with the key manually but then when I pull the handle everything unlocks

Surely if it's too expensive just forget the second key? Just look after the first one. Mine only came with one key and I never gave it a second thought. Nor can I remember ever using a second key since 1997 when I passed my test
