Spax quality issues

Go into specifics all you want Dan, 4-5 weeks to take them off my car?? Really?
Why would I drive around with leaking shockers on my car for this timescale?
Be very careful what you post on here Dan, unless you have proof that I did indeed drive around 4-5weeks with them on my car
I do, however have a bill of sale from the garage my car was in at this time regarding all of this with parts supplied,dated, to prove otherwise
But I'm guessing SPAX won't have told you that

I have just came off the phone from the finance company, Frank MD is now back but now denying the parcel is there......even though it was there last week and the week before and the week before.........

As Chip isnt here this week I will say it for him , spax are crap cheap shock , this has been the case for 20 years , they are no better than cheap chinease crap ..... in fact I am stunned that people pay good money for them in fact similar to decent brands .
Alot of people buy it and have no idea what they want or need IF YOU WANT A STIFFER CAR WITH LESS BODYROLL YOU NEED STIFFER SPRINGS AND ANTI ROLL BARS NOT THE DAMPING WOUND RIGHT UP !!

I'll say now i wasn't having a pop at phil re his comments on track kit , and look there is nothing wrong with people not fully understanding suspension and the ins and outs , it will always seem a black art to the uneducated or informed , (and i know phil isn't uninformed so that wasn't aimed at him)
​Its complicated to the point that even reading books on the subject won't give you the answers as the theory and practice don't always directly correlate. Its why manufacturers and race teams take hours in testing and fine tuning from the basics to get a setup working right , and road and race setups are not going to have the same requirements , they simply cant .

My knowledge is fairly good ,but will pail into the realms of schoolboy basics compared to a chassis or damper specialist.


It reminds me very well of going back into karting and how after a while we got back to understanding how to set things up to be fast and front running ,it took time , i have a mate who then went into karts from being a very good racer and it took hours of phone calls to get his head round what he understood from cars and years of racing them to what actually worked on karts as his theory didn't work as he thought it should ..... he got there in the end , but admits it had him to the point of despair many many times before he picked up the phone .......


people seem to want racecar handling with good road manners and durability , the simple answer is , its physically not possible , for so many reasons ..... and what a car manufacturer spends developing a road chassis goes into years and is so much more than a race team will need to for a race car (i am being very simplistic here)

​cheap suspension products will always be that, the simple point really is that the Spax don't seem cheap , and that has thrown many people ,and the marketing has lead them into something they didn't quite expect

Just found out AST do theirs with roadvalving too......wonder how they'd fare?

Who knows, but can't imagine them throwing the toys/getting overly defensive/slagging people off/giving it the teflon in the event of there being an issue.

AST seem to have at least some degree of professionalism and morality about them. :)

OP I'll reply later when I het in from work as some ppl have more things to do than sit onhere through the day, also BlackGolds comment I actually went out in his car with that kit fitted, his felt stiff but un even clicks on the dampers won't have helped but I can say this it still handled as I was chasing him across some roads in my VTS and he was going quite abit faster than me in the bends etc as I had to lift, also could of done with a proper geo setup aswel

On my phone soif the spellings bad that's wh

not going into the specifics too much, but he DEMANDED a refund before sending anything back for inspection, (err... no) then took 4-5 weeks before bothering to take them off the car. There was zero fault with the parts when they did come back anyway.

Sorry, guess I was getting hung up on the 'spax is better or your money back' advertisement they put out there

nope, he got the same level of service, he just acted like an arse-hat from the start. Wouldn't ever deal with him again, rather stab myself in the eye

I'm glad you feel like that Dan, if you read my post I never slated you.

Well when I spoke to you and you say the coilovers have been sent to spax for inspection and ring spax to find out whats going on, I'm told they've never been sent whatsoever. This went on over 2-3 weeks and it was easy to see through the bullshit.

Mitch went out in my car, I even got him to set the dampers himself and it was rock solid, so much so I got a bad back every time I drove it. Sadly it did take me quite a while to get them off the car, reason being I was working a lot and getting the opportunity to get them off was not really possible. However the car had only covered around 300 miles max with them on.

I even offered to bring the car to you (200 miles+ journey) so you could set them up yourself to which you declined, which was a shame I guess, I would've looked forward to you punching me (His words not mine) haha

Have you even bought a set of dan?? because you seem to be dragging his name in the dirt when he didn't even sell the set to the op, maybe if he did purchase through dan he wouldn't have to be constantly complaining about how SPAX are fobbing him off.

Spax customer service does sound shocking though

to be fair so did i used to after washing the car down with nice fresh water after a wet day ,as track grit gets everywhere .....

​then spanner check front to back when dry .Its amazing what you find when looking carefully ,but stops those DNF's

I made the logical decision of going and looking at a set before buying and they're sooo cheap I could have predicted all these issues.

Spax start selling Clio suspension, heavily promoted (and developed?) by Dan @ 519.
Spax offer no quibble money back guarantee if you aren't impressed by them, also promoted heavily.
Some customers have issues with rears seizing and going rusty, spax tell them to take a running jump, using excuses like parcels never arriving or not for road use track only blah blah blah
Spax then redesign the rear coilovers to stop issues happening that they won't admit ever happened in the first place and still refuse to give customers with faulty first kits their money back
One customer has no issues with technical faults but doesn't believe they are suited for his use so try's to use the money back guarantee and Dan @ 519 threatens to punch him in the face.


I think that just about sums it up lol

This thread is getting stupid.
The OP needs to get down to Spax to demand to meet the MD, to sort the issues out.
As for Dan at 519, he was the most professional person I've met out of the 3 Renault specialist i'ved used previously.
And on two occasions redid the work of others for free due to being a perfectionist.
When I had big issues with my HR Coilovers, he offered to send and sort it out for me even though I never even bought the kit off him.
For me thats great service.

Don't talk rubbish man, i think the only people I would see if I turned up at Spax would be the police, judging by my previous experience with them they would not want to engage with me, not worth the 482 miles round trip
It do you think they will say, certainly sir, frank will pop down and see you with a full refund?
As for Dan 519, I don't know him and I never have slagged him off as I don't know him but he has made comments towards and about myself which to date are unfounded. These actions, in my opinion, are unprofessional and not the kind of behaviour you want to advertise if your in business.

If Dan didn't want his beloved Spax slated, the best course of action would have been for him to contact Spax (as I'm sure he has) and suggest a refund to minimise my 'hate campaign' or indeed my 'childish behaviour' and then there would be only good reports on here.

Yes, I know I didn't purchase them from Dan but if he didn't want any bad press towards Spax I would have thought this would have made more sense.......just a thought though......
