Specialist Mechanics in South East London

I curbed my 172 a couple of weeks ago and cracked the sump (among other things)... I bought a new sump and am trying to take the old one off but having unscrewed the whole thing (nightmare considering the positions of some of those torx screws) found that you cant get the blessed thing out without either lifting the engine or lowering the sub frame and I have the tools to do neither... So, wsas wondered if anyone had any names of specialist Renault gerages in the Bromley/ South East London area?

5 alive are expensive ! and a the set-up is a little strange, i had a gearbox off them and in total cost me £800 fitted. only lasted a year as the syncro was f*cked.

A close friend of does engine conversions as a hobbie and could probably do it for you and at a reasonable cost.

He only lives in dartford and is pretty reasonable.

If you want his number just PM me.

I wouldnt recommend 5 alive, they replaced the cambelt on my 16v but snapped the bracket holding the fuel lines. Drove down to the coast that weekend, half way there I got a strong smell of petrol and watched my fuel gauge visibly go down. The fuel lines were resting on the cambelt and had worn through p1ssing fuel everywhere. Luckily my car didnt go up in smoke!! Not been back since. Their lock-up looks like a junk yard too. I go to well-in-tune now, not a Renault specialist but hes a good mechanic.

Mike.

Well, I decided to go with Renault in the end... they quoted me 263 + Vat to fix the sump on which I thought was OK. I phoned round a few local mechanics but in the end thought it was safest to stick with renault as at at least Id get a guarantee on the work. fingers crossed will get my motor back next week...

Thaks for the advice.
