speedo cable earth

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

im pretty sure its speedo cable, although it only started happening when i changed the map sensor and ecu!! which is wierd!

but at the moment with my idling problem its a help more than anything!

but the cars being setup properly nxt friday so want it normal for then so its ok on the rollers!

Youll need to reach under the steeringwheel for the connector of the speedo cable. Just take of the panel where the bonnet release is and youll see the connector running from your speedo cable, its pretty simple actually. ;)

been a long time since i fitted a valver speedo cable but not sure what you mean about this earth. i thought they just had the speed sensor connector just behind the instrument panel.

I think its the one you were talking about before. Which people use when installing stereos.
oh right i can remember mentioning that in another post now. didnt click at first as i forgot it was the wire for the speedo sensor. had a few of these at work a long time ago. ive had that problem as the wire runs behind the stereo area and people have fitted non gen stereos and tapped into this wire for an earth. this affects the ecu signal and causes the high tickover. the ones ive had before idle ok when you first start them up but once you boot them the idle sticks at around 2000rpm until you switch it off and restart it.

its in the stereo loom, beind the radio..... right behind it...

just took the car to the rollers to be setup, first thing he said was the speedo earth would be most likely causing the idling problems!

cheers

is the earth part of the actual plug that goes into the back of the stereo?

my stereos have never worked right, always cutting out or just not powering up! me thinks this is all related!

i changed the speedo cable again today. seems to idle much better, and the revs drop much nicer, but its still sticking after a thrash at 1600rpm!
