Speedo clocks

Hi, can anyone help me,I need to buy some new clocks for my 2001 phase 1, do I need to get the right millage ones or will the ecu store and use the millage from my old clocks? I've heard people say both but I'd like to know for sure before buying,and will ph2 fit and work in ph1?

Mileage is stored within the speedo unit itself. Just get a second hand unit, take note of your current mileage and write that in you service book stating when the clocks where changed etc, including the mileage of the new unit.
