spray painting brake pads....

  Italian 3.2 V6
is spray painting the standard 172 brake pads (front and rear) an easy task to do? Or do I need some1 who knows what they are doing??

Any1 done it and can run me through what to do, were to and not to spraypaint??

Thanks, piers.

Yea its pretty easy. Whip the wheels off, Brush them with a wire brush and paint with hammerite smooth.

dont get any one the discs or acutal pads and it will be fine.

Its a really easy job mate.

Jack it up.
Remove the wheel.
Spray every thing with brake cleaner (£3 a can from halfords/renault)
Give everything a good scrub with a wire brush.
Spray it all again with cleaner.
Paint with a tin of smooth hammerite and a little brush.

Bobs related to you.

Is it possible to do this by removing the calipers and spray painting them for a better finish?

FAIL. :rasp:

Seriously, what colour are you going for?

I've consider this (briefly) but not sure what colour would suit Iceberg?

Silver is an easy one, as pretty much any colour goes with it. Saying that, red is my favourite.

Where is the best place to get spray on caliper paint?

There are about a million threads on painting calipers, what paint to buy & where from etc. There is also how do it it too.

How hard can it be to use the search facility ??:S

btw, i bought halfords own, caliper paint, (red!) ..surely that will be as good if not better than the hamerite smooth since its actually desinged for painting calipers... ?

..i was hoping you could of been a little more blunt m8, u dont need to go easy on me.

...i think sum1 needs a tug!! :rasp:

Bit harsh, but have to agree with him mate. You should go for white. Think thats the only one that will suit flame red.

.... yeah now quote the rest of what I said  selective quoting ftl.

Anyway red will look sh*t.

Don't use Hammerite as the red stuff is not heat prof, use heat resistant caliper paint. Alot of people have used hammerite and they dont seem to have had any problems, its up to you, the right choice is Caliper paint but no one has had a problem with hammerite.

Bit of a contradiction there, is it just the red hammerite that isn't heat proof ? I thought they were all ok up to a certain temp ?? (I know that hammerite isn't high temp paint)

For reference, mine done in hammerite smooth black still look fresh almost two years on:)

Its radiator paint, its not as high temperature as the heat proof stuff which irrc is only in silver or black. I would never use nor recommend the stuff on my brakes but as you have referenced in the above post its fine, I was stating I would not use it but I have heard people have not had any problems with it.- did that really need to be explained?

Yes it did because I didn't understand what you were saying, hence why I asked.

- edit, how is red hammerite smooth radiator paint ??

It's the same as what we use in black etc.

All is explained in numerous other threads on the same matter. That was just a quick summery.

no issues with the hammerite.

Lol, i've written in about 90% of the other threads.

Can you show me where it says that hammerite smooth red is radiator paint ? and not the same as the black (or silver paint used)
