spraying inside of wheel tips

Anyone got any ideas on the best way to spray the inside of an alloy wheel properly with avoiding getting paint drips?!

With a spray can for the nooks and crannies or a brush?

A spray can, paint the nooks first then you dont end up putting a big thick coat on the easy to get bits, if that makes sense.

I guess that's where I went wrong last time and ended up with the drips as I was over compensating it with just one spray action instead of doing the nooks lightly first then?

Yea probably, Its hard to paint recesses so you end up spraying closer than u normally would e.g wheel bolt recesses.

Im currently prepping some wheels. Its a proper PITA!!! Not got round to spraying them though.

I have resorted to brillo pads to get all the shite off them

Get them blasted dude, worth the cash IMO. £10-£15 a rim but saves so much aggro...

Just finished spraying a set of alloys, and their ending on the bay tomorrow.

Getting a decent finish is hard. Takes multiple light coats, and flatting to acheive a good finish

I've done two of my oz f1s in the last few days. A few hours each night. I've spent about £60 on paint lacquer primer and filler. The lacquer is 2k and was £10 per can. They have come out perfect tbh with little effort. My advice is get decent paint and lacquer because the halfods ones are s**t.

That ain't really the problem I'm facing at the moment, it's removing the bloody paint!

80 grit sand paper.

i've been using 60 grit for the last couple of nights, not really getting anywhere fast.

Ah well, unless you get them sandblasted, keep at it!

You don't need to take them back to the metal, just aslong as you have a smooth surface to apply a base coat to.

I know it's a toss up between the two! Do you reckon I need to sand off all the paint I originally sprayed on or do little bits like say underneath in the nooks i could just take a bit off?

Aslong as you've roughed up the surface so the paint will stick, it'll be fine. Then spray a base coat, and flat it back with some 1500 grit, then add coats on top until you get a decent finish

Sound like your in same boat as me kind of!
I started a wheel, hours in total of rubbing down/off the original paint / lacker, i'd say getting close to 15 horus or something stupid. I've spent ages rubbing, a few hours a day over a few weeks.

I find im becomming OCD on how smooth you can get the alloy before painting lol!

However i've put the wheel back on as it is, not started the other 3, and im gonna try and find someone to blast them, because there's no WAY im rubbing down the other 3!!!!

So if anyone know's anyone in the Gloucestershire area, let us know please

A coat per night? I'd leave a 30 min gap as long as you're not going to heavy with the paint tbh, layers up nicely then.
