Squeaking Bloody Breaks!

  Iceberg 172 Cup
Hi all, i have some Ferrodo DS2500 pads alround and Brembo discs, took them off, cleaned them, put them all back but still same, is there anything you can do with breaks that squeak? It's just the fronts? There all pretty much new, probably covered 1500miles tops, theyve done this since i bought it, calipers etc are all in great cond. Is it because the Ferrodo's need warming up alot? i.e; track use? If so i really wouldn't recommend them for the road. I cant live with the squeaks!

Any other ideas? The previous owner (james on here) gave me some, what he calls anti-squeal shims, but to me theyre in a renault packet so i would have thought they are just standard break shims.

Thanks!!

edit, just realised i spelt brakes wrong throughout, silly me! lol

are the pads free to move in the calipers? they must be able to move by at least 1mm vertically in the pad carrier

Proper brake grease to the rear of the pads and a tiny bit on the shims/seats where the pads sit normally helps

hmmm not checked this but i will, if not, what does it mean?

the depth of the pads is unreal though they must be 15mm on each pad! it's all very tight!

I ran standard front brakes for 2 years with no squeaks. Last month had brembo HCs and Renault pads fitted and now it squeals when breaking. Mainly when cold but if i don't drive hard it will do it for the whole journey. The squealing must be the brembos. I don't mind it to much though.

not on race pads!

race pads must be able to move in the carrier/caliper

REMOVE the shims and grind down the edges of the back plates (not the friction material)

Remove the anti rattle shims if you are using DS2500 pads on the front. The pads are slightly larger than standard pads. That will eliminate the squealing.

a good fix for this is remove the pads, and give them a slight rub down with some fine grade paper, to remove the glase that will have formed, then take a file and chamfer the edges to reduce it happening again, its what we used to to when i worked at Audi, but it all really depends on your pad thickness to weather you can do it or not

They're noisy horrid things. That's the chance you take running non road legal brakes though ;)

didnt know you could get such things as non road legal brakes? if theyre alot better than the original surely it cannot be illegal or is that was this shite country has come to?

fine, i'll crash next time! straight into the back of some old git! or just not bother replacing brakes in the future, the government make me so mad! boils my blood.

they're not R70 certified, and the box says "not for road use" or words to that effect.

Bump. This copper grease stuff, is it sprayable or like a thick compound? Basically, can I get a decent squirt on my pads without removing them.

Would need to remove them I think. It's a compound not a spray.

Ive got the same setup and no squeal at all, cleaned the shims with a wire brush and copper slip on the back of the pads where the piston mark is and the carrier marks on the other, been quiet since. Like what's been said, my pads can move easily in the carrier but not enough to rattle
