What timescale are you looking at for the WiFi stage? Now thats gonna be the exciting part... what size HD have you got in there?

timescale for wifi, hmm dunno.. i just got everything stuck down in the boot just now.

Think I need to make a build for it to all go into now, but the wifi isnt really that expensive so hopefully soon.

oh its got a 120GB HDD in it just now so I have about 45 Games and about 35 Full DVD quality movies..

There is currently a 137GB limit in the Xbox otherwise you could put a 250GB drive in... I am well pleased though.. now I will have somthing to do while I am waiting for me mcdonalds..heh

Ha ha, wicked. Yeah all you need is a cool build for it (make sure you plan for your other stages though; especially amp/sub placement etc)

I read up on that site you linked to about the other guy whos done it and running Linux; Im definitely tempted myself, purely cos Im in the market for a new PC anyway but now Im considering the Xbox as a real contender.

How d you rip DVDs then, are they DiVXd? Presumably youre running Linux as your OS, apart from when playing games? Whats the custom dashboard..?

Soz for all the questions... dont really know much abut the Xbox!

Ye, I will need to plan ahead for the boot build, you should deffinatly use an xbox over a PC (no keyboard and mouse needed then) because the PC has to be shut down everytime, the xbox can just be powered off plus the xbox costs £120 plus chip plus new HDD. The movies and the games are all on the Xbox already, so no changing of DVDs required.

The DVDs are indeed DivXd reducing the size down to 700mb each

It is not running linux yet, it is running EvoloutionX which is a custom dashboard (instead of the microsoft one) allowing you to run the games/applications etc.

Xbox Media Player is one of those application, and allows you to play pretty much every format you can think off including mp3s (so you could set up your own jukebox)

I know this is off topic but could someone explain this divX? Is it used to download and play DVDs or can you use it to rip DVDs to your hard drive? Is it easy to use? Can you use it to convert DVDs to CDs???

DivX is a software that compresses video. As stated earlier a dvd about 3Gb compressed to 700mb so it can fit on a standard CD.

DivX is a nasty codec though cause its gone commercial closed source... better off with Xvid.. a true Open source codec.

I had my seats out earlier doin some sound proofin, some bird only plopped one all over em!! ha

Did you say you got the x box chipped? I dont know much about x boxs at the moment either but i think ill be doing some searches in a minute!

if you got basic soldering iron ability then you should be able to chip your own xbox..

yeah im pretty good with a soldering iron. Iv been lookin on the net for chips, found loads of diferent types. Might go and try and part x me old N64 tommorow! Lucky the bird poo came out, was a bit worried sometimes it can be a bit acid like! oh well, i dont sit back their anyway.

Back on the original subject. I have now fitted the flush mount power switch, bear in mind that I wanted to do this without cutting/drilling any holes so that the car can be returned to totally standard.

ps. the xbox and inverter are currently mounted using the advanced technology called "duct tape" or gaffa or elephant or whatever you like to call it. (its the good stuff not the sh*tty stuff that you can get)
