Standard Airbox Question..

Hi Guys/Girls,
I'm thinking of spraying my standard airbox a light colour as black absorbs heat from the engine. I'm not going down the IK route as the temperatures here wouldn't make squat difference and might even decrease performance with a IK on so i'm putting in an ITG panel and a hill power bend and maybe spraying the airbox a lighter colour. Has anyone done this? Any paint recommended?

Quite a good idea

I haven't sprayed the airbox but have been thinking of buying some heat resistant mat/shield and covering the box up. Have to agree on the IK thing...had one before and it really was c**p in the summer months.

I'm presuming just a standard spray paint would do the job? Apply the primer and then spray white i'm thinking? A couple of coats for good measure too.

I'm c**p at painting an I know it'll come off so am going to use the mat instead!

I think silver would look good under the bonnet and reflect the heat well

To be honest i wouldn't bother. I'd route a better feed to the box and put an ITG filter in it. Failing that a Maxogen or something specific.

Got a Green panel in mine.....might try and remove the valve at the end of the OE feed this weekend though and route it a bit further down behind the fog light

Well I'm always one to try something different so i think i'll have a go this weekend at the same time as fitting my ITG panel. Will post some pics up when its done.

Wouldnt a carbon box be better at heat resistance? Paintings not going to make a great deal of difference, unless its reflective. Not being the world greatest scientist, maybe chroming or wrapping it in tinfoil (lol) might be the answer.

As AJM has said, relocating the feed is your move. Maybe to the foglight location or into the front grill.

I'd prefer to route to the front grill...Not that i ever use ma foggy's but just to keep the front...well std lookin. and not lopsided.

A carbon box would cost a pretty penny! I'm a bit hesistant to relocate the feed to the fog light area as the amount of dust and sand here is unbelievable especially when shamals blow (sandstorms). I'll paint it and soon find out,its not going to do it any harm so might aswell. It will brighten up my engine bay too hopefully. Tin foil sounds good,lol. Shrink wrap it on or something?

As above....just order some heatshield mat/wrap......tin foil won't last 5 minutes.
