my 172 hasnt been modded once, i love it standard, i guess it depends on what you want? performance noise or whatever

If it's bog standard I'd just lower it, stainless exhaust/decat and possibly change wheels or paint them anthracite/black :)

I never ever thought I mod a car, but I have done with this one. And I'm quite pleased with it - still looks factory imho.

lower it by how much?? i like the stealth exhaust but as i said above i really dont know what i want as i dont want any loud sounds from it

  FF Monaco 172
mines got a carbon fiber look splitter and a magnex full system which were already fitted to the car when i bought it - i don't have any plans to mod it anymore so.

i posted a few pics of my 172 and ppl said i should lower it also, thing is when i look at the car its already low to the ground. Scratched it twice in bay parking on the pavement cause its so low lol other cars can manage to get on it but not me :(

Not much. Few bits and bobs really - Have now become the norm for 172's tbh. Cup Spoiler, Speedline Turinis, Cup Splitter, Slivervisions, Ported inlet manifold, uprated fuel pressure regulator, ITG Maxogen Induction kit, cat back 2.5" ProSpeed Stainless exhaust. Alo had GrpN ECU but taken that off and awaiting funds for a remap.

Just leave it standard, it helps when trying to sell it.

Maybe Cup or 182 wheels, Cup spoiler and splitter.

All i've done is Sliver indicators, Cup splitter, itg panel filter and painted the cailpers Silver just to make the car look cleaner.

  Not got a car
standard imo with just a panel filter and a nice back box or system.

I really dont understand why people mess with the suspension. The Standard sport suspension is great.

Forgot to add CTR aerial and hillpower polished strut top covers. lol

very nice what would all that cost roughly?

Depends.

Wheels were £450 for 5, fully refurbed and with nearly new tyres from Yozza. Got £350 for my 172 wheels with nearly new contis.

Splitter was £45. Spoiler was £170, painted by a mate for nothing.

Maxogen was £280.

Fuel pressure regulator was £30 iirc

Strut top cvers were a gift for helping a mate out.

Exhaust was £270 fitted.

GrpN ECU was £180.

When planning mods I found myself easily getting carried away, have since had a rethink and decided I'm not bothering doing them all, have other things to spend my money on

Not bothering with any mods that aren't easily reversible or that I can't sell on afterwards, ie matched inlets and a remap - The inlets would be on exchange and I'd remove the remap for sale so I wouldn't want to sell the car with matched inlets without the remap, plus I'd have lost the money on the remap so aren't doing either, besides that £500 pays for my hols

Mods I've done or plan to do are :-

ITG panel filter (got a new std one too)
Hillpower inlet pipe (kept original)
Custom cold air feeds (kept original)
Milltek cat-back exhaust (I've got the original)
Eibach Sportlines (kept originals)
Silvervision bulbs (got originals)
Plates
Prob keep std brakes but have them bled

^ will make some money back on the above

I'll be happy at that, less body roll, slightly better handling, more aggressive noise but not stupid silly + better throttle response

  Scirocco GT 210
Mine is completely standard (except for some silvervision indicator bulbs lol), as I can't afford to mod it.

If I could afford to, all I'd do is get the inlet matched, a panel filter and a remap, just to sort out the poor torque curve.

  172 cup
my thoughts are dont do it mate keep things standard.. i did loads of mods on my impreza i used to have and for the amount i spent looking back it wasnt worth it..and that was from 218bhp to 320 you will be left still wanting more after

At the moment the only thing i've changed on my Mk2 172 are the repeaters for some clear ones. But i'm now going to buy some [trophy speedline] turinis, and upgrade to H&R coilovers very shortly.

Cars are there to be enjoyed I've had modified cars an stock I've stuck now with stock as its good enough and does what I want at the low price I like.

There no right anwer modify and it will cost you money dn't modify and you won't be individal or be able to build a more dedicated car to what you want.

be warned its hard to stop once you start modding :)

i tallied up all my mods and it totaled 34 lol

^ totally agree, ive hardly done anything in the grand scheme of mods but ive had to be strict on myself on anything further i plan to do and not spending a penny more than ive put aside

It is difficult to stop yourself once you start and it's even more difficult justifying it to the better half.

I feel that you should mod' to a stage that is easily reversible ie. splitters, spoilers etc. Always keep the originals wherever possible as this means that you will have the funds from the car sale as well as sale of the mods. For example, I have just bought a phase 1 172 gear knob, instead of cutting my original off, I have bought a 2nd stick and will swap the entire unit and then reverse come sale time. That way you maximise return on both. the same with inlets, I have acquired a plenum and inlet and will trade these for modified items while keeping my originals.

The only major item this method cannot be applied to is the ECU if you are having a rempa but I probably wouldn't declare this at point of sale anyway TBH.

  Clio 172 mk2
I've only done the splitter, Green panel, Stealth exhaust and sports cat.

Just going to keep it serviced properly and replace the pads & discs at some point.

  Clio 172 mk2
I paid £110 for the carbon splitter from K-tec and about £30 for the panel filter.

Splitter (if you haven't got one already) is good addition....really makes the front end look so much better.

if you want to mod it then mod it mate, these cars are worth f**k all now anyway due to the model range constantly changing, so putting a few bits on isn't going to make the world of difference.
I'd always mod a clio personally as I dont find them quick enough as standard and get bored of the power very quickly... it's horses for courses really...

Yes but the point is that modding the car will generally be a money pit. Most mods wont actually add value to the car and in some cases, buyers will be put off. I've read lots of threads on here where people say they will only buy standard etc because there seems to be a notion that a modified car has had a hard life. In reality thats not always the case as is proved by many cs members. However, the potential buyer at the end of the day is more likely to be joe bloggs who is looking for mint standard RS's on autotrader.

If you feel like modding the car then go for it. Just ensure you plan ahead and factor in any related costs at a later date so you dont get stung. As mentioned above; alot of people keep original parts etc so they can return to standard when selling. Thats a sound idea imo and you can always sell the mods on here afterwards to cover any removal costs.

it's only a money pit depending on the individual though and it's not done to add value, it's to increase enjoyment and add a new lease of life into a car you may be bored with.

I'd buy either modded or standard, most people on here I doubt would have a preference, guess it depends on the mods really, but most don't do anything severe, just simple bolt on breathing ones.

Also bear in mind that a modded car owned by a CS member will most likely have been looked after far better than a standard car owned by Joe Public, even if it's been driven hard

eg

Standard Joe Public - low miles - frequent short trips - Renault vegetable oil every 12k - lovingly washed with fairy liquid every weekend

Modded CS owner - Higher miles - driven hard but not from cold - Fully synth oil every 12k possibly even every 6k, washed correctly

exactly, I know which I'd buy personally...

IF I ever sold my current Clio it would be to an owners club member too, as I wouldn't trust joe public driving it on a test drive and it's a more specialised market, as you get people that want something highly modified and not the norm.

You can also search the forum for posts by the person to build up a sort of picture of the sort of life the car has had. If I was in the market to change my car id most likely buy it from a forum member if I was looking for a modded car. I've spent a lot on mods. Would I do it again? probably not... i'd buy a faster car or save the money and buy a car thats already modded. Its the labour costs that bumps up the cost of modding a car from standard.

^ good point re. the owners history / cars history - very useful the search button

Quickshift, Green Panel Filter, Modified airfeed (removing fog light and acoustic valve), Dropped on H&R's and thats about it. i think.

Perfect for me.

  Clio 172 mk2
I suppose it does depend on the mods

I'd buy a Clio that was cosmetically standard but had a few extras like exhaust, panel filter etc.

  RS Clio 200
modding is great fun dude, but its something you should only start if it something you really enjoy etc (how can you if you aint done it lol i know, but if u find it really interesting i mean)

Once you start, you'll soon find its hard to stop
