Standard throttle body reprogramming

My 172 cup didn't feel like starting the other day, connected diagnostics to it, came up with codes for tps. My mates got a second throttle body that he's giving to me tonight, however he's heard that it might need programming into the ecu...true or not?

Should self calibrate at every keyon, so it doesnt matter if you chuck a new one on.

Its not coded no but you do have to erase the memorised values from the ECU when you have renewed it. So technically true.
