Start of my hobby

  Renaultsport Clio V6
I have recently got a Nikon d5000 of ebay. Got it cheap just to see if photography is an interesting hobby. Turnes out that I love it.

So.......

Lenses, what to do.

1. Wide angle. (I want the Nikon Nikkor 10-24mm)

2. Nikon Nikkor 55-300mm (any good?)

3. Macro lens? Nikon Nikkor 40mm?

Help me build my collection.

Also, if investing money into lenses would it be better to upgrade first ie D600 or D800 (fx format)

When starting out theres no better thing to do than to get yourself a good fast 50mm, I’d recommend the Nikon 50mm F1.8G, it’ll get you some stunning images and it can be used on the Full frame d800’s and suchlike should you upgrade.

Other than that either the Tele or wide angle would be a good choice, depending on what you’re shooting. I’d leave the macro lens for now as theres more things you can do with the other lenses mentioned.

A nifty fifty should be the first lens everyone buys. Use that for a while to learn about composition and to get a general idea of what you subjects you are shooting more.

In general, for landscape/architectural photography you'd use a wide angle and when shooting sports/wildlife etc you'd probably benefit more from a telezoom. Obviously this is just a guideline, there are always exceptions to the rule.

A fast 50mm is good fun, so is a macro lens.

Don't waste your money on pointless accessories like UV filters etc.

A wide angle wouldn't be one of the first lenses I would get, quite a specialised lens.

It also depends on what you want to take photos off too :)

It does all depend what you want to take pictures of.
A fast prime is a must for all collections.

And i just so happen to be looking to sell a Nikon 35mm 1.8 ;)

I'm a little OCD when it comes to brands so I will be looking at the nikon lenses even if they are more money. Things should match.

I also only started photography in April and most people told me to get a 50mm prime... I personally found that lens quite frustrating as a nooby and still do.

The best lens I've bought so far was my wide angle, closely followed by my telephoto.

In retrospect, I wouldn't have bought a 50mm prime (maybe a 30...), and I would have spent a little more on my Telephoto and Wide Angle.

Dissagree, go out with just your 50mm... you'll find out it can do more than you think. I adore my 50mm.
