Start problems

Hi im new to this forum so you wont recognise me- Ive put a quick intro under clio discussion.

Basically my 2004 1.2 16v clio has done 18k and has recently been serviced, and the last couple of days it splutters when starting (starts but then the revs drop to 100 rpm quickly) and i have to give it some throttle to get it going, then its fine. Just wondered if anyone else has this problem as i dont know if its the damp weather or something causing the problem.

Thanks

Will most likely be the damp weather mate, does it start ok when it has been run for a while?

Oh and welcome by the way:)

Sort of. Last night i drove it for 30 mins, then 1.5 hrs later went to start it to go home and it happened again. No warning lights come on, telling me there is a fault.

It seems unusual for the age and malieage of the car. Its also very well looked after- i always let the engine warm up before driving it and always keep it below 4000 rpm. Once a month i probably take it to 5000 rpm, only very briefly just to keep the engine flexible. so its not been thrashed in any way at all.

Theres your problem then......get out there and thrash it to within an inch of its life and all will be rosey

Renault do have a lot of trouble with 1.2 16v they are a rubbish engine suffer from spark plus looms thottle bodys (this may be your problem) tappets injection compters etc.

Thats what ive been told also by a renault dealer. The engine also makes a slight tapping noise when i hold it at 1000rpm exactly when it is warmed up. I hope that isnt anything too serious.
