Starter motor heat shield

  Arctic Blue 182
So snapped the little(big) clip off mine when taking it out. Put the car back together after gear box change and now after starting it i got smoke coming from the manifold area in less the 30 secs of it being started.

Smoke smelled of plastic so i'm guessing its the manifold cooking the cables that go to the starter motor.

Can anyone confirm this is definitely the case and any suggested solutions/bodges as I need this back on the road today?

Ohh FYI this was a newbie mistake of mine. I had trapped the ht lead in the manifold so was cooking that. Had to replace it as misfire occurred after I had run it a while.

  Many.
I was going to say, it won't have wrecked the wiring that quickly.

Get a replacement shield on there though, as it can cause pre-mature starter failure.
