Starting issues

  Rb 182
Evening chaps.

Just a quicky here, i think i know the answer but thiught i would ask anyway.

Finally got me green Rt (shed) on the road. But its got starting/batt issues.

Now when i try start it the starter just 'clicks'.

Also when driving the batt light will flicker. It runs fine, but if you use lights/wipers/readio anything electric bar running the car it flickers.

I thought there MUST be a wiring faut or the alt and starter are dead!

I jacked the car up and foiund that the box to chassis earth was havely corroded, alomost all the way through. I touched it and it crumbeled in my hand.

I got a new cable from halfords but can get the bolt out the box for it.

Im pretty sure thats the problem but can some one confirm it?

and suggest another place for it? I tried a few bolts around the box mount but still non start!

Sad

Wiring fault, recos clio does this also. Its most likely the earth strap is not making a contact.

You can bolt the GB mount to the earth for the battery earth which is on the body work, if it makes your life easier.

yep that will be the problem mate, sounds exactly like a earth fault
clip a jump lead from the chassis to the neg of the battery to confirm if you like

Told ye! But also a sticking solenoid.

The flashing batt light is the earth and I think the starter isnt getting enought voltage due to this as well. Although it could also be a sticking solenoid but then why would it start other times when the batt light doesnt flash.

Get the earth swapped and take it from there.

Did you find a hill?!
