Starting Problem on a 182

  Clio 182
Hi,

After a bit of advice, up until now the car has been fine just throwing an issue that i have no idea what to do. I have a Clio 55 plate 182 with 84k miles on that had cambelt, aux belt, dephaser pulley and water pump replaced last April (74k miles).

As of the last month the car has been intermittently starting but will always start with a bump start, I have had the car in the garage but it isn't throwing up any fault codes as each day it goes to the garage it starts fine. They have checked all earth points and nothing stood out.

Help? Any advice is greatly appreciated on this as i don't know where to start.

Thanks,

Joe

Spark plugs and leads were changed in April this year with a service, I imagine battery is the original.

When I turn key all I hear is a double click but not sure on immobiliser as its now starting... Pain in the rear

Keep an eye on the immobiliser light next time. I am about to update another thread regarding the immobiliser issue. Basically the light should go solid once the ignition is on (Key position No.2) and then go off again.

The other thread with a no start issue.

I cannot say as I have only once had this issue but on another car caused by another fault (Google Passat B6 Steering lock issue if you wish to look into it).

If your immobiliser has gone on the piss (or the key) I would say to get an auto locksmith out who can recode the key with any luck that is a vague guess at that!

Right car didn't start again so I used a diagnostics kit that threw up no codes

Immobiliser light when I turned key to start stayed off

I have had another thought, but I would expect a few things to be dead in the car including the lights etc.

Have you checked for continuity at the starter motor fuse? It is built into the positive battery terminal.

I imagine battery is the original.
When I turn key all I hear is a double click .
Colder autumn nights,10 year old battery, double click as the solonoid engages & then releases, having drained the last dregs from the battery.
Time for a jump start to prove the point, then replace the battery.
Prices start from £23+ vat, probably last won`t 10 years, but the one I got last year is still going strong.

Hi Steve,

Next time it doesn't start I'll try jump starting it and fingers crossed this will start it. If so battery will be the way to go.

Hi Charlie,

How do I check this?

check for 12V being present on the other side of the cable's fuse (i.e going to the starter etc.) while having the negative of the lead to an earth point; engine etc.
