Starting Problem

Hi there,

I'm having problems getting my Clio DCi to start, its not a constant thing that happens all the time but i'm just wondering if anyone can help me out.

What happens is sometimes when i start the car it turns over but doesn't fire up correctly until a couple seconds later. This is with waiting for the glow plug light to go out and starting to car out of gear with no pressure on the accelarator, does anyone know what could be causing this?

Is the red light on the dash board (the imobiliser light) going out?

Or your TDC sensor broken by the sounds.

Maybes the Glow Plugs need changing?

Cheers for the advice guys, i'm going to the garage on thursday to order in a few bits so i'll get them to take a look at it then, thanks for your help

Check the battery earth lead where it connects to the frame.

Ahhhh i never thought of that mate, thanks Could explain a problem that i'm having with the near side, side light aswell, where abouts will i find this though generally?!

I am not that familiar with the diesel cars but it should be very near the neg battery terminal behind the headlight assembly possibly.

It can’t be far as good electrical practice is to keep the cables as short as possible.

Thats what i thought mate, just couldn't find it the other day when i had a look so thought i best double check

Right guys,

Sorry about this I checked the battery negative and that was fine, took the car to the garage when I ordered some bits and they booked it in to check, they thought it was glow plugs and gave the car a full new set. Had the car back a week now and its starting to stutter when starting again.

This doesn't happen all the time though :S Any more ideas or should i get the TDC sensor checked?

Right Guys,

I've got the glow plugs changed at the garage foc as they thought that was the problem with my starting. I've had the car back now just over a week and its started to splutter when starting :S This doesn't happen all the time and its not always when the engines cold as i had it happen to me when i had been through to Boro and back the other day and then left the car for 5 mins whilst i got a few bits.

Wil i need my TDC sensor checking now or what else should i check?
