I have a 1.4RT 1993 and in need of a power steering rack, ive got one offered to me but its from a williams will it fit?

how much for a new one?

the racks are probably different but unable to be sure due to renault always making little changes in between models.not bad to fit its just the unions that can sometimes be awkward to get on.

i know new columns and fittin is something stupid like £300+ so want to get some breakin one and either fit it myself or get a local to fit it

you could probably get a recon pas rack pretty cheap.i got one for my 309 for about £130 from a local firm.have a look around.

when ur steerin starts to go loose and u can move the steerin wheel before the wheels move is it the rack i need or the column?

could be a number of things,i would get it checked by a mechanic before you change anything.

probably go for the column first but impossible to be fully sure without having actualy checked it.

if it is the coloum it is very easy to change mate.

to check whether it is, go n look by the pedals and pull up the massive rubber gaiter to expose the universal joint and UJ. above the UJ have a look at the joint that changes the circular tubing to a flat shape.

move the steering wheel and see if the upper coloum moves without turning the lower coloum. blah it is a bit long winded to expain but you should understand what i mean and how to check it.

was considering writing a guide of how to change the coloum. may do when i have a few hours to spare.
