Steering, engine temp, batt light all playing up

  182, 996t
Bit of a strange one I think. All of the problems I'm about to list occurred within about 20 seconds of each other.

First problem, if I try to turn the steering wheel while the engine is running it starts shaking violently, pas fluid level is ok

second problem, the temp gauge started to get higher and fans getting colder, indicating to me a water pump problem. No loss of coolant or leaks.

Third problem, battery light came on indicating alternator not charging but that went back off, only came on for a few secs a couple of times.

Are the alternator, pas pump, water pump all driven off the same aux belt? Strange thing is the belt doesn't seem to be slack and seems to be turning all of the pulleys? I'm guessing a power steering pump of water pump have failed and really can't see them both failing at the same time but if the belt is still turning why am I having other problems?

i know not to run the engine in case the belt snaps and takes out the timing belt but am stumped as to what's gone wrong. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ben
