Steering Knock.

Hi guys, got a niggle with my 172(51 plate).Firstly had a metal on metal sound coming from the drivers side suspension turret which turned out to be a knackered top mount.I replaced both with modified genuine ones. I now have no use for the anti knock washers I bought last week lol. The mounts replaced has sorted the BRRRRR metal on metal sound it was making before. Secondly if I sit in the car and rock the steering I get a knocking sound which is peeing me off to say the least. I also have wear on the inner edge of my drivers side front tyre.

I bought some of these from you last week,but as I have the Renault modified top mounts they don't fit over the nut like in your pics.

Steering rack bushes? Inner tie rods? track rod ends ? best get those checked or replaced.

Most likely inner track rods, do the ends while there too.

Easiest way to test, jack up the car and turn the wheel left to right, you'll feel or see movement without the other side moving.

Tyre will be tracking, once you replace bits get it done by a company with quality gear.

Replaced ball joint as the old one was sloppy and a lot of the noise has gone. Will check track rod ends when i havent got baby sitting duties.
