hi all. Need your help. Its a clio 182 btw.
Drove to Kent from South Wales Thursday ( 226miles ). Parked car, come back to find a big puddle of oil under the car. Got in to find the steering whining and struggling to turn. Obviously had to get home so drove back after topping it up with fluid. Now last night i ran the car with no fluid as it leaked all on my mates drive but had no choice but to get it home ( 2 miles max ). So made my way home and the car started to really scream. Bad too. When i stopped alot of smoke poured out from under the bonnet. Got out and looked and seen the belt was spinning but guessing it was just spinning on a ceased pulley?
So if i can just get this right,
Im guessing the steering pump gets its power the pulley which the fan belt turns ?
And guessing that the belt has burned off because the pulley has stopped working, meaning the pumps seized ?
Also if its leaking fluid, is it a pipe that could have burst of is it the actual pump that has broke ? Any common faults with these or is it just a age factor ?
Would anybody know the cost of a pump ? Or a renault specialst i can take it too? Will travel if its a good job done.
