  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
why are you changing the rack mounts? the rack is held on by the 4 bolts, track rod ends, and the coloum (sp) pin btw

hmmm they should be fine, would be hard with the rack in sit-u, to remove would mean to drain the system too.

just check the 4 16mm bolts are tight

Changed ball joints, clunking noise still there when steering is applied.
I imagine its rod ends but its quite a loud clunk, so im assuming the rack is loose.

Nope its stock.

kk cool, is the spring clunking? sometimes the spring moves round on the top plate, so when you turn ..it clunks

a way to test the sound is to take a deep 21mm socket and turn the top mount until it clunks, if the sound is the same then the spring is out of seat,

note

once you have done the above test, you may have to remove the shock assembly as now the spring will of come off seatLOL.. (could try to wind back in sit-u to get it in place again)

It aint the spring.

Could be the rods, waiting on my locking wheelnut to arrive from renault.

A little bit of play in the steering rack ends and the steering track rod ends is alright Tom. If its excessive get them changed or pack the rack end gaiters with multi purpose grease can quiet them down.

If its more of a clunk what about your shock top mounts? ARB bushes?
