Steering wheel uj

Trying to reduce play in my steering, on my old 16v I welded up the universal joint which made the world of difference. Is this part similar on the 182 as in do the still have a plastic part that can wear?
Found my rack bushes were loose yesterday which is embarrassing as it was me who put the new ones on. You could see the marks where the rack had moved around 3mm either way, would this have made much difference when translated to wheel movement?

You have pretty much answered your own problem
Loose rack bushes would mean the rack being able to move/slide which equates to sloppy steering!
Tighten them up and should be problem solved
