can you take the silver parts of the gear knob and steering wheel out.

a picture of a 172 on ebay has all the silver bits of the dash colour coded to the car and looks very nice.

how do they get the black gold colour, is it sprayed black and then have a gold lacquer put over it.

i was under the impression it was a black groundcoat with the gold flippy layer over the top, and then this is lacquered. its exactly the same process when doing liquid yellow.

This would be interesting to know, my paint guy seemed to think the flakes where in the base coat when he looked?
