still thinking of getting an ipod nano - is it worth it ?

I've been thinking about getting on for a while now really want the 4gb one as i have a lot of tunes, but the price tag is a bit of an off put tbh
I can get it for about £150 on line delivered (a legit shop, no ebay stuff)

I was just wondering people's views on them really.
I don't want it if its going to be hard to use & work (i'm quite pants with tech stuff tbh ) as long as its easy to shove the tunes on & select/edit what I want thats cool !

Are they reliable ?? I want it for the gym, as I get bored with listening to the radio all the time (the do have alot of radio stations though)
Can they take a bit of a battering (say if i accidentally drop it) I guess its best to get one of those silly rubber cases for it then ?
I'm not into those arm band things uuurgh !!!:dapprove:

Do they ever go wrong ? (I assume there's no way of it skipping etc)
Is there better out there? I want a name brand that i've heard off (no delboy stylee stuff)

Yes, they rock. Very reliable, and they can take a battering but they will scratch - keep it in the little case and it'll be fine.

There probably is better, but the iPod owns all.

I've had this conversation so many times - it doesn't matter how good/bad an iPod is - it's an iPod, so it's the only MP3 player you need to think about buying

Nano won't skip cus' it's solid-state memory.. so ideal for use in a gym etc..

I have mine fitted in my car (which is where it gets 99% of it's use!)

(And they look so so so so so so so mint!)

I've got the smaller 2GB version and thats more than plenty enough for me. Suprisingly for an Apple product, it has far more function than just form alone. The i-Tunes software, though a tad fiddly at times is pretty straight-forward - certainly after a few goes with it.

It uses solid-state storage (as Daz pointed out) which is great due to the fact that there's no moving parts and arguably it has a better battery life than the larger-capacity hard drive ones.

The crowning glory for the i-Pod though, is the native i-Tunes software and its online store. Brilliant service, but lethal on the 'ol debit card!

I helped her set it up and can't fault the little thing. I might buy myself one now if I could get it to work in my car

I've used mine loads since I got it last year.

I use it every weekday in the gym, then connect it to my Xbox 360 the rest of the time. I can't fault it.

just get it for the gym, they def worth the 150 quid, i upgraded my mini cos i was embarresed about using the brick down the gym, seems everyone has a nano nowadays.

Before you decide have a look at the Creative Zen Micro, and the Sony 5gb.

Then make your choice

I've seen the new sony walkman things (purple coloured thing, mp3 player) and tbh I didn't like the way it looked.

If I didn't have the Nano, and couldn't get one, I'd get the Zen Micro - it does DRM, so it means you can go on Napster and pay the monthly subscription and get as much music as you like - it's only "rented" though, so it's not as good as it first seems. If you stop paying the monthly cost (£15 I think now?) all ya music stops playing.

It's all about the iPod Nano's.. mmmm.... hehe.

I personally dont rate the ipod as well as most of the competitors.

Its a nicer player if portability is what your after but the zen micro sounds better and is cheaper.

Look on most review sites compared to the creative in the same area usually the creative comes out on top for sound quality every time.

I got a 20gb ipod.. had that for a year & half.. used daily in my car.. & plugged into my house stereo..
Never had a problem.. love it

As for the Creative Zens.. not too keen on them, a few work mates have them, including the micro. I don't like the navigation on them (but that could be as i'm used to ipod) and 'for me' i have never noticed the sound quality differences that reviews suggest.
Oh and the 30 or 40gb one is a bit of a beast!! not a nice looking bit of kit. (although the chap who owns it obvioulsy says his is better than any ipod!! Hmmm joker!)

Overall, in my opinion the ipod is by far the best mp3 player out of the bunch.

looks aint everything and the ipod navigation was originally copied from the zen just altered. And yeah the creative ones are a bit bigger thats due to them using a laptop hard drive rather than the smaller one in the ipod. Also means the storage on a zen is easily upgradable though you can buy a 20gb zen and put a 80gb hard drive in it in 5 minutes. then flash latest firmware to it and it shows up as an 80gb drive.

Plus theres loads of different versions of the Zen. seen the zen micro photo? 8gb not much bigger than the ipod and colour screen etc. I know which id rather send my money on.

But creative do have around 30 or so different MP3 players. theres over 10 zens for a start completely different looks between them etc. not just different capacities.
