STOLEN : UPDATE

  Silver 182 F/F

Remeber me,a few weeks ago got my 182 stolen, thanks for all the messages of support your a good bunch.

Just wondered if anyone can help mith a insurance dilema. They are going to pay out,but i have to send in a receipt for purchase of car which i got from new car discount for £12500(only five weeks old when stolen),does anyone know when they pay out, should i accept a pay out for roughly that value or should i argue for payout nearer to retail value, because when you pay insurance they charge you for the retail value.Dont want to sound greedy but its better in my pocket than theirs.

CHEERS EVERYONE!

Go for the full retail value. At the end of the day they should pay you how much the car is worth. It shouldnt matter how much you paid for it

Have a read of your insurance policy. If i had made a claim within 12months i would have got my car replaced, unfortunately i wrote it off 2 weeks after that period and its been 4 motnhs now arguing with them. Press them to replace the car outright, that way you wont loose out.

Good luck

It says in my insurance they pay by book price which to me starts at retail then depreciates by amount of time you have it which to me 5 weeks shouldnt loose that much.its just that they have sent me a letter asking for the receipt so they can asses value but to me its not what i paid that im due but surley what its worth by book price which i would think should be higher.I just wonderd if anyone had the same experience and am i in my rights to argue.

Tell them you dont have the original receipt but are able to provide a written purchase quote from the local Renault dealer.

insurance works on market value unless stated.

some policies do a new for old within 12 months (as they can negotiate discounts with manufacturers - actually works out cheaper for them to buy u a new car).

theyre not daft and wont fall for the old "lost the receipt" trick, they know u can get them cheap from supermarkets. Harsh fact is your 5 week old 182 is worth less than a spanker.

having said that, it will depend on ur negotiation skills!

oh- and u dont have to accept the first offer, take that money as an interim payment and work on getting more if youre not happy.
