STOP and battery light

Car  megane 225
was driving my ph2 mk2 172 and the STOP and battery light came on, carried on driving and it went away, thought nothing of it. Carried on drived and it came on and went away again.
Any ideas what it could mean? new battery time?

Check the live cable going to the alternator usually it corrodes at the fixing. Also check the alternator signal cable it may be loose.

as john said... the live cable is a common fault corroding at the eye.

happened to mine... broke down slowly and then snapped off completely. Just needs either re-soldered to a new fixing eye, or cleaned up and connected properly.

If everything is ok (aux belt, live to alternator, battery terminals/contacts)... then may be alternator on way out?

Alternator or battery I reckon from personal experience.

Battery is cheaper to replace, I would check that first tbh.

ill get a battery check today, is the live cable the one on the right hand side of the alternator which has like a o ring connection on it?

lol, just had a test at kwik fit (not bad for free) they said its charging from the alternator and the battery is fine
hmmmm

belt could be losing tension(loose tensioner) which will bring up the light.
had this at a trackday on a clio 172 cup. check the belt tension. other than that???

okies, will check the tension, is there any particular test? i know you shouldnt be able to turn it more than 90 degrees is that right?
Ill check the live going to the alternator and give it a clean, how did you sort yours out M40?
Cheers
Sam

90degrees?? wtf?

if shouldn;t have any more than 1" of freeplay between the longest non-contact point when you press down on it with your thumb

happened to me broke down,
Arnold clark renault checked everythin said nthin was wrong
took it to parks and they said it was a loose coneection to the positive part of my battery

Reet, looks like a fun night tonight, ill take it over my mates, will take the live connector off clean it so its shining and put some kind of rust protector coating on it (maybae vaseline)
Ill re-tighten the battery connections and check the tension of the belt
Phew, cheers for the advice peeps
