strange temperature guage behaviour

hey all.
my 182 has started playing up over the last two days- the temperature guage keeps swinging wildly from the half way level to zero and back again when im running. ivve a feeling its either something to do with the temperature sender or the thermostat. my gut says sender as the temp guage only hits the half way mark, and isnt over heating, which the sticking thermostat could cause.
anyone had similar problems, or can suggest anything to try?
also, how easy is it to replace the sender unit for a temperature guage on a clio 182?

Temp sensor connections, theres always been a problem with these either tighten the pins or new sensor as well its located just behind the air box to the left in the thermostat housing if you take the elbow off you might see it easyier

Probably the CTS. Easy enough to change just be quick so you don't loose too much coolant.

oh, for the record, no air box in there, so hopefully will have even easier access!

me again. does anyone have a picture of the engine bay with the temp sensor highlighted? I'm buggered if I can figure out which one it is!
