Stripping

Stripping.

Ok, decided to do it not for weight issues, not to say "oh I've taken 50kg of cheap nylon clad foam out of my car"

But so I can say "f**k you, no I won't take you home, I have 2 seats;)"

Anyway, that black bar that goes below the rear seats, bolted down with 2 17mm bolts..... Every half turn I make on it, it gets harder and harder. I'm going to keep going while you reply, but if anyone has any "make it easy" tips like "drill the f*****s out" then I'll eagerly await.

Adios.

Girls always go clubbing in two's.

Very hard to get a girl a lift home, if her mate has to get a taxi on her own.

Anyways...

Its cos below that bar, and the bolt holes, is the road. Soray a little wd40 on the thread, some might drip down make it easier. Be careful not to make the nut slippy, so you end up rounding off the bolts  cough.

Persevere, probably never been undone, will take ages first time.

lol, as peperami said they go directly underneath the car so the ends will be rusted!
just keep working them backwards and forwards, putting some degreaser or penetrant onto the thread then tightening it in again, will come out eventually!

Well I got them off, arms like cannons do the trick mofo ;)

And girls go f**king in ones Peperami, and if they're loose enough to come in twos... Well I'm sure she won't mind sitting on the metal;)

Next trick.

The seats. What the f**k?? Do I just keep pulling till they come out? Or do I have to unzip them and f**k about with the inards?

You taken the bit you actually sit on out?

Tkae that out first, just pulls up towards front of car, and then pulls upwards. Then push the rear backrest forwards. Will expose a gold, and a black set of bolts, where they split fold. Remove the black star nut. Slide the bracket forwards, and out. Then wiggle and pull each side out (at sides of the car) till the whole backrest is loose, and comes out.

When I've finished should I just toss them in the loft and lock the door ?

Ok got that bit exposed. However the star bolt is pretty tight, and the drill is undoing... It's Makita aswell not some Woolworths crap:eek:

I'll go see what air tools I have in the garage.

  M2 Competition
Aye, i rounded mine off trying to undo it, ended up taking a hacksaw to the bolt head. Pretty soft metal so be careful with it.

  BMW M4; S1000 RR
Anyone else got a good solution to taking that bolt out ???

I think I need to find the right size star bit to begin with :D Then I think this drill will work.

  M2 Competition
Theres two mark. One has to be removed, the other has the slidey bracket. They're one in front of the other.

Make sure you grease the threads up nicely when you refit the bolts.

(refit the bolts, as otherwise spray comes through the holes)

Approximately how heavy are the rear seats (of the leather variety)?
My mum has a 1.6 merc a-class which you can take the rear seats out of really easily but it doesnt make that much difference to the cars acceleration...and those seats feel bloody heavy.

I had a box of work gear, and a box of crap I took from the car (it's not got nothing bar the essentials, being 3 bags of skips, road pilot and phone charger), took out the back seats.

I hate to admit it but it's a bit faster. There's a hill nearby to which I use as a benchmark for various cars, there is a roundabout before the hill, but by going up, you'll hit "top hill speed" in slower cars. For the DCi it was always about 80 (sometimes 82 if there was no traffic and got a better run up). But just then it did 85 before it got to the hill and then about 87ish at the top.

General driving, sounds like the boot is open. Exhaust is slightly louder, road noise is also considerably up (I wear ear plugs for long journeys anyways in the Clio).

I cant get the torx bolt out, if i grind iot of, how the hell am i going to get the thread out if i ever want to put the seats back in???

  M2 Competition
Keep trying mate, dont grind it off, will come with time. You mean the black torx bolt yeah? the gold one stays in.

The black one! Its all rounded off now, tried at the weekend and been wondering how i can get it out. Its about 10-15mm out at the minute but cant turn it as the head is fooked! Tried molegrips but its in such a gay place between the seats its really hard to get the grips on it!

The torx shaped hole is now round though! Might weld an old allen key to the top and try that.....

  M2 Competition
lol, thats what i did. Cut the head off with a hacksaw now.

Then, when you want to refit the seats, get a new bolt from renault, and have the old one drilled out... pain in the bum, lol.

  BMW M4; S1000 RR
I tried an allen key but it wasn't having any of it (using a 2m bar as leverage), just kept popping out. Welding it... Surely it would be better to weld a torx bit to it.. Remember, BIG drill is what you need ;)

French cars are a pain in he arse! My 20year old nova seats came out easier than this, lol.
I'll give it a big bit of drilling mate, just for you ;)
