Stupid engine question !

  Peddled device
Can a Nitrous cylinder be hooked up to a standard engine and when needed can you just 'add' it to the intake system...and what sort of power increase would you get?

you can get things like 20hp, 50hp, 75hp jets and you need some sort of pregressive controller. I think most popular set up is to have a controller with a button that put a limited amount in for a short time, because to much can be nasty. I think you need to upgrade the head gasket and spark plugs, not sure, i was going to have it on my VTS when i had my cams fitted but there was alot of other stuff the recommended that i should have done to make it safe, put me off in the end.

You can also get wet and dry systems, dry system use just Nitrous, wet system uses Nitrous and fuel.

I would do a search for Wizzards of Nos on google

A wet WON system will bolt clean on, should be fine upto a max of 50 without a progessive controller just ensure the mix is good :)

So a bolt on system with around a 50 BHP increase....sounds easy.But why does it seem un-popular? Is cost an issue or ,as you stated,the fact that prolonged use will damage the engine?

i have a xsara vts 167bhp standard and on the xsara forum a boy had ran nitrous on his for 2 years no problems.used twice on his new alfa and engine died lol
afaik wizrds of noz use the best equipment above anything more than 40bhp you will get clutch slip but if you use a progressive controller you can get awy with more before clutch starts to slip.
you can set it up with the car stationary i think you bring the revs up to a 1/3rd of the useable rev range hold it there activate your nitrous and if its spot on it the revs should increase to just before the rev limiter when that happens your in the right ballpark my mates got it in his celica 140bhp i always say buy a 190 celica then fit it he says the 140 units make as much power as the 190 upto 6krpm and its a more reliable unit.ok then me says lol to describe what a 40shot is like imagine vtec ona type r then imagine vtec with steroids lol
everything i mentioned here the guys at wizards of noz told him how to set it up.
buy a large bottle as where i stay the nearest supplier of noz is an hour away not good so get a big bottle and fill her up.also you need good pressure in the bottle to get the nitrous out of it into the engine nitrous works best when the bottle is warm so in the winter time your car will be alot slower he usually takes the bottle into his house heats it by the radiator then takes it into his car for a couple of blasts before it cools...you can buy a thermal jacket for them but cant remeber why he hasnt got one!

yes it can be added to a standard engine the first thing that doesnt cope is the clutch it will slip.

n2o has come on a lot in the last few years, i think the reason its no widely used is because people would rather spend the money having constant power rather than power that needs refilled all the time! plus a lot of bad press makes it less popular.

  renault clio 1.6 rsi
i contacted WON about nos on my 1.6 i have quoted the email one of thier secretaries sent so you can view and underastand why its better to pay than try to fc uk about DIYing it and guessing

Our entry level Street-Blaster 150i @ £489 is our lowest priced system suitable for your car and if budget restrictions are an issue, this system would be the one to choose.
Please click on the following link for more details;

With the basic Street-Blaster 150i i.e. without progressive controller, you should be able to add up to 50bhp. By adding a progressive controller to the system, you should be able to add up to 75bhp.

Although not always essential, it is always beneficial to add a progressive controller to your chosen system. We offer 3 different models that you can read about on page

These are just examples of what we can offer you but because we are the "manufacturers" of our products (rather than just a retail outlet), we can offer you a wide range of optional extra components, to suit your performance requirements and your budget (here are some examples);
Bottle heater http://www.noswizard.com/product_desc.php?id=99
Bottle gauge http://www.noswizard.com/product_list.php?id=21
Purge kit http://www.noswizard.com/product_desc.php?id=7

The reason that it puts me off is I don't think its very good value for money, youre paying £500 in the above picture for what a gas canister solenoids and a bit of nylon tube!!

On the m-way a turbo diesel will kill a 182 for mid-range at around 50 mph....but with a blast from NOS ???

  Volvo S60 T5
Nitrous and Clios are fun for about 2 seconds then you realise its £50 a refill!!
Been there done it and wont do it again.
Run a 5.98 0-60 in my old RS clio running it.

Would rather be slow now than spend £50 a refill!!!

^ what he says keep the money for something better and permanent!!!

imo there wont be a a big difference.
i think most mods are a waste of mobney for the gains they offer a few bhp here and there if your lucky you need about 100bhp more than your opponent to notice a big difference between yous.

need to disagree with you there, while it may not make a big difference in a straight line "race" the numbers dont tell the full story i only gained 15bhp and 15lbft with my mods but the difference to the way it drives is unbeleivable it may only pull 4 or 5 car lenghts by 145mph on a standard 172 but the way it drives its 10x better
