Stupid mate and his stupid looking car

ive had a stint against one and i didnt really have to try. they simply havnt got the power and immediacy of the 172 cup, needless to say, RS wins, lol.

the fiestas do look good tho i must admit, but the lack of power puts me off.

In my exp, even though the one im on about is possibly modified from 20-90/*00 you wouldnt own one at all.

You'd pull yes but two/three cars max. And yes they do corner well and yes they do have a better interior and better feel to them build wise so he could be right over all.

Still common as muck though whether that be down to the fact there a better car or more probable alot cheaper!!!

TBH my impression of the Fiesta ST 150 was that it was pretty nippy, until this weekend.

I had a tuned ST up my arse on a Duel Carigway on Saturaday afternoon, i let it come past me only to see that it had a load of stickers all on the side of the car, such a Jenvy, Omex and Miltek, It sounded like it was running TB's so I thought I would see what a difference it made.

I will be honest I was fast asleep when he booted it so by the time I had woken up he was already 5 car lenghts ahead. I dropped the Trophy down the 3rd hit the cam and booted it, straight away I was pulling back the gain he had, within a short distance I was on his arse, thats when I decided I had proved my point and backed off.

My conclusion is that a Standard 182 Trophy 2 with a ton of Cr@p in the boot is still quicker than a TB ST150 with just the Driver.

All I can say is the look on his face when he saw me approching rather quikly and he was still pushing his car. As long as you stay on Cam with the 182 you should be fine, drop under 5k in 3rd gear and you will struggle until you work the revs up.

the interior is gash imo.... and about it rattling.. i would rather have a rattly clio than a rotbox.... people have 6 month old ones they have had to take back becuase of rust on the door and boot shuts...

ST's are actually a not bad car...Quickish. I shrugged one off in my old 172.

There is nothing about the ST that is better than the Clio. Pace, handling, interior, exterior.etc. They look okay (when they haven't been striped-up!) but they are not in the same league as the Clio. Okay, they are both hatchbacks.

Its about 195bhp,plus its only got lowering springs on.

They are Pumabuild stickers on the side and back mate .

I had a fiesta st, they are decent enough cars, but need serious modification to get the best from them. The trouble is that it's torque limited in first and second gear, third gear is alright, and then 90mph it starts to run out of steam so only has one properly usable gear.

Doesn't inspire confidence at all at higher cornering speeds, but if you block that out in your head when driving they aint half bad.

i would say they are very similar in perfomance and value for money and depeciation etc but the clio is a better package all round id say!!

Fast Ford did a test on induction kits and you can get 10bhp from a k+n.Ford deliberatly made the power to 148bhp as if it was 150bhp the insurance group would go up:eek: and the air filter is directly ontop of the engine so suffers a bit(All above info from Fastford)
Same engine is in a mx5 and its 160bhp.

not around a atrack and anyway...I have a professional job with an image to keep up - can't be driving something as chav like as the corsa now.

I should add, I didn't buy my 197 for speed - I love the looks of it and although the 182 is faster it's not a patch on the 197 for looks or quality. A couple of mates have 182s and they'd die for a 197 but each to their own of course.

i would prefer the looks of the 197 over the corsa too..
its a more adult car in my opinion..

I'm not going to start a discussion of what a professional job is as I'm sure most folk on here have a good idea. The fact is, were I 18+ and could afford a corsa vxr then fair play but as a 23 year old with a job where you can often find yourself in the spotlight, personally the corsa vxr is a car I would feel like a ned in and people would be looking at me for the wrong reasons. Also it's the type of car that all the boy racers drool over and personally, that kind of attention isn't for me.

At the end of the day, I'm happy to state that 172s and 182s are quicker than the 197 - I cruise around giving my car the odd blast now and again as opposed to trying to beat everything else on the road. If I wanted blistering pace I'd drive a motorbike or save up for something like an evo or sti - but again, at this moment in time, it's an image I wouldn't want.

At the end of the day everyone has their own opinion. If you hate the 197 then great because I don't want to see lots on the road. I see 172/182s in Glasgow most days of the week and once the price comes down I know the 197 will be the same but by that time, I will no doubt have moved on - if the guys and girls driving them like them then great. I'm happy with the compliments and negative comments the car attracts in equal measure.

I love the styling of the new 197 and that's the bottom line for me - some people are boy racers some aren't. For me, it's the latter.

Can't believe you are debating over tenths of a second. Bottom line is, the Clio is noticeably quicker to 60 and 100 and 139.


pmsl yup... its hardly important... a few tenths mean nothing in the real world... but just to settle the argument...
the Official Figure from Renault (well for the Cup anyway) were something like 6.5. The part you two may be confusing is 0-60 and 0-62 times. 0.62 was like 7.2 on the FF172's and maybe 182's iirc.

i raced 1 from the lights in my willy (had 1 extra person in my car, he was on his own) only cos he was revving engine like it was a ferrari and i ate it for brekky, by 60 i was 2 or 3 car lengths ahead and by 100 he was nowhere near

also 1 came past me at 60ish when i was doin 50 and owned him easy enough too with out even dropping a cog :rasp:

ST's are not poo, what sort of description is that? :clown:

They aren't as quick as a 1*2, but they are better built, they do handle very well, seats are excellent, etc.

And most importantly the insurance is cheaper, they are filling a gap in the market, it was never meant to compete with a 1*2.

Look at the price of a new 197 and a new ST!!

Makes the ST with less power look good VFM!

Plus......... it comes in white, something most Clio owners get hard about ;) lol.

Right I was wrong I appoligies, but all I will say is that I was catching up with the car, so even if it is running the Pumabuild extras, my car was full of stuff in the boot and 2 up. Whether or not Weeson would agree that I was catchin up or if he had just backed off. I dont really know.

I am not saying the the ST is crap but after driving the 182 the ST seems a little weak.

Iv had blats from low to high speed with one and although i pulled it was nothing major so thats why it was hard to believe the story on yours against a heavily modded one.

Maybe mid speed against mid speed which was your exp is a different story altogether.
 
The truth is, that apples for apples, although the 182 will overtake the ST, you won't be doing it with one hand on the wheel while using the other hand to make an 'L' sign on your forehead as you drive past. Certainly not below even remotely legal speeds anyway :)

I'm also selling up as i'm not very happy with the way the fiesta is built and its performance.

To be honest, IMO how fast a car is compared to another one is usually in a traffic light blast. Realistically, handling on the road between good handling cars is less noticeable, unless you're prepared to risk driving right on the limits of yours and your cars abilities on the road.

But to compare them straight line speed wise, the 182 would be quicker without a doubt. So tell your mate to stop being a narrow minded idiot.

It does also depend on driving skills, in that I had some woman in a Mini Cooper trying to race me in my missus 182 Cup. She was intent and really revved the car off the line. I just pulled away normally and kept my boot in it spanked her car by the time I changed to 2nd gear.

But on a car thats a bit closer you need to get a spot on start and you'll have no trouble pulling a lead on a Fiesta ST.

my mate has an ST and we had the same discussion. So we took it to the local airfield and i smoked his ugly box ford arse! Long live the the RS! ph`quick can do it so 182 should piss it!:cool:

take on the big boys instead i had a play against a golf r32 (older shape) safe to say he wasn't very impressed when a red clio went around him on the outside of him on a big roundabout, his tyres were squeeling for grip wheras my sach dampers made sure mine stuck nicely :p


i do agree that you would smoke a fiesta but my brother has a r32 and the rs is no match for it and no matter what anyone says the r32 is the best handling car i have ever driven!

Would have thought that with 4WD the R32 would certainly have a lot of grip, but then again my 225 has tonnes of grip but not the chuckability of the missus 182 Cup.

Can't see a 182 keeping with en R32 in my opininion anyway, the sheer grunt of the Golf I'd have thought would do it.
