Sub not working?

  Monaco
Right here i go again...

I have a brand new sub and amp combo,

Things wired up;

Power to amp from battery
Earth to body of car
Aux to the power-in thing so that the amp only turns on when ignition is on.
+ - SW out of back of head unit (red and white) to + - on amp for sub (red and white).

Now the amp powers up, music plays through 4 speakers, but nothing coming through the sub

the headunit is definatly set to send to the sub ( alpine, with "sub on" in the initial set up!)

i am stumped.:(

Any ideas?

Is the amp going into a protection mode? You sure the amp is actually turing on?
Do you have the audio wire's from the termals on the amp to the sub?

Aux to the power in thing? Mean the REM/ Remote wire to turn the amp on when the headunit turns on?

Basically if you have definatly getting the amp to turn on, there's usually nothing wrong with the power rem or the ground, the problems probally lies with iether the RCA's (Red and White cable linked together with male ends) which link the Amp to the headunit or possibly the speaker wires linking the amp to the sub.

Hope that helps.

The blue LED power light illuminates when the ignition is on.

What is protection mode?

the sub and amp are both built into a box so i can only assume they wired the sub into the amp (it's this one)
^ this deal came with all the wires and is brand new so i am assuming the fault does not lie with the amp-to-headunit wires.

You got he remote wire wired up ? (i'm not too sure what some things are called form your write up)
If that is the one that sends a constant 12v signal when the ignition is on then yes.

thanks for all your help so far.

You have me stumped then. If you are sure the amp is turning on and it's an active enclosure so doubt it will be going into protection mode (usually does that if you bridge channels incorrectly) the only thing i can think of is the audio wires coming from the amp to the back of the sub have come loose. Take the sub out and have a look.

Or possibly one side of the RCA cable is wrong, like red to red white to white etc, double check you havn't mixed something up there. :)

What's it grounded to ( Earthed ) Iv'e seen amps earthed to seatbelt bolts and other items,

There might be enough of a ground to light it up not not really drive it.

Either that or the sub output level is low or on the wrong output rca's.

Have you tried fiddling with the settings on the Head Unit? There is usually an option to turn the Sub woofer on or off?

EDIT: sorry re-read the post. Take a look at the two systems that can be used. Fiddling with that helped me out when i installed mine. Also Sub Woofer volume setting? Im using a mutant sub woofer with a alpine head unit to ;)

This could be the problem! i've ruled out almost everything else, fiddled with head unit etc.

I am earthing it to the top of the suspension mount at the back. i got impatient . didn't realise an good earth made a difference

whats a recomended earth?

Thats no good buddy ( Too much rubber isolating parts on a strut), Use the bolt on the Isofix bar if you have it, Even then the arse of that bolt stick out the bottom of the car and can get grotty.

The Earth return is as important as the feed, What ever you use scrape off any paint/primer and get a good clean metal fixing.

There is a couple of earth studs inside the boot below the clusters, Might mess up the looks of your wiring, But will give you a sound grounding point ( clean them up too )
