On the in part. On the rear or sub pre out on the headunit.

Then just make sure you use the same on either end, usually red for right. White/black for left.

them cables need to be plugged into the in on sub

signal goes OUT your headunit and IN to your amp/sub etc

is there a way to tell if the sub has SW has even powered up? I think there maybe a power problem.

Basically mate what you need to do is plug the lead from the headunit into the Amp it has four holes like u said, you need to plug the one with the black band on it into the positive and the one without into the negative if you have power to the sub the amp should have a light that will come on that will let you know if you have power.

Evening mate, seems you already have it sussed, but just in case;

RCA leads connect to sockets highlighted in RED, (doesn't matter which way round, amp gives monaural output only)....

Phase Switch, (not in pic), set at 0' initially, if any issues relating to timing are apparent, then try switch at 180', then select the setting which best suits your taste or rather the cars accoustics....

Dial highlighted in BLUE, set at approx 100Hz & adjust downwards to taste....

Dial highlighted in YELLOW, this is used to match the amps input signal voltage to the Head Units Pre-Out voltage....This dial works in reverse, set at 6v equates to minimum gain, set at 0.25v equates to max gain....

With regards initial setup;

headunit;
bass---at "0"
treble---at"0"
any factory preset eq's---off
any added bass circuits---off
graphic or parametric eq's---flatline at"0"
any media expansion circuits---off,(these are used to improve mp3 playback quality).
bass boost features---off

If using an Alpine unit with an onboard sub level control, (runs from 0 to 15), then set sub amplifier with this feature at level 15, (This ensures the Sub Pre-Out voltage matches the Front & Rear Pre-Out voltages)....

Sinewave Downloads & Bass Test Tracks

now your ready to begin;
to avoid problems associated with your headunit running out off power and supplying a clipped signal you should select as your max volume a point approx 20% below max, so if using a scale that goes from 0 up to 35,(like alpine's), you should treat say 30 as your max "safe" volume. If any distortion is evident, then lower the volume until output is clear & precise....

Now play a 50hz test tone, (downloaded from previous link), and increase the gain, as you hear distortion back off slightly, thats the amps gain set.

Now play a dynamic cd that you are familiar with to adjust the crossover freq's to your taste.

When complete you should have a basic setting that you can tweak to get it as you want it, this won't take 10min's, it will probably take day's.

Hope you find this useful---wallop
