Summer heat soak

The new motor is struggling with these temps. Its feels like a different car at 6am in the morning compared to the afternoon drive home.

Forgot how much TC'd cars struggle in these temps.

I'd bet there's a 20-30hp differnce. The open cone filter wont help as well.

As a (very!) rough rule, 1 degree increase in IAT = 1bhp decrease in power, so the difference between summer and winter can easily be 20bhp+. It’s not so much heat soak but air density. Apparently the gold heat reflective tape can produce real drops in IAT though, I’m anxious to try wrapping my turbo intake pipe to see whether it makes much of a difference. I did see a claim of 12 degrees cooler the other day.

Open cone definitely won’t be helping, people bang on about it not mattering because of the intercooler, but thin air will always have less oxygen in it even after it’s cooled.

  A special one.
I did a track day in the impreza in 30 deg heat, it was so so laggy and felt slow, not helped by the fact i have a TMIC.
But then this has a after market TM and makes 500hp with it, the core in this mount is F1 tech but cost £2k

Yeah the S3 intercooler is needed. Its only £300 and a direct bolt in.

Does it involve taking the rad and condenser out at the same time like some other VAG stuff? Bit of an arse ache.
Also does your vRS use those s**t VAG hose connectors that always leak and blow off???

Wut?? Wrap the intake pipe and get mad gains???

But you didn't pay 2 grand for a TMIC right?

Yeah its sandwiched in between the aircon and rad. And yes uses those connectors. The S3 IC used alloy ends so you can use proper clamps.

Yea they were starting to be phased out around that time, VW went back to more normal hose connectors.

Talk about wasting time re-inventing the wheel.
