Sump gasket affect gear change

  Mk2 172

Herds in Basingstoke said I needed a new sump gasket.

(Hope that is not just the sump drain washer....)

Anyway. I am now finding gear change is not quite so definite. Sometimes I wont be able to find the gear, and sometimes I will think it is in, and it turns out to still be in neutral. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, Neutral & lots of embarassing revving)

Would a new sump gasket affect my gear change?

Cheers, Elliot,

Could be grated syncromesh.

Where is the gearbox oil leve? is there such a thing?

Thought Herds would have picked that up on the service.

Thanks BenR.

I dont think I am loosing any oil at all, as my garage floor hasnt got any oil drips on it.

Maybe i should take the boxing gloves off.

check the clutch cable and the pedal ratchet mechanism... if the clutch is not fully disengaging then it will be hard to get the car into gear.
