Super Unleaded or Not!

Got my clio 172 mk1 this week, didnt realsie it ran on 98, what are peoples consumptions like on this?? does the extra mpg balance out the cost? and is there a noticable performance increase?

How much does a full tank cost and on average how many miles do you get out of it?

Anyone running on normal 95?

All comments are appreciated...

Cheers

Phil.

Im not running a 172, i have a 1.2 mk1 but when i switched to optimax i noticed a slight increaee in performance (prolly just my tho), only costs something like an extra £2 a tank)

I certainly wouldnt run it all day on 95RON, most run 172s on fuels in the following order of popularity:-

Optimax (98 RON)
BP Ultimate (97.6 RON)
Superunleaded (97 RON)
Unleaded (95 RON)

no it cant harm the engine !! The higher the RON the more pressure it can be compressed to !! So using 95 RON in a 172 may mean retarding !!

i run my valver on optimax and nothing else as near me is a garage that does it for the price of 95ron unleaded! it runs nice and clean, performance is good as is fuel consumption but obviously i havent measured it accurately so it might be a mental thing!

Think the standard unleaded in france is 98 RON so thats why the French cars say use it. There best is 100+ I think.

Think we get 95 due to tax reasons dont we?

rings bells. i believe theyre the same as japan where they run their cars on 100+ ron but i think that would just be pointless for these cars

I generally run mine on 97 super un. Too far to travel to fill up with Ultimate or floptimax. I generally do notice the difference from running 95, as to comepaired to running a high RON. not really norticaly running floptimax, but defo more responsive running super un 97, and BP ultimate. Normally costs me £35 for a full tank of super un 97 :(

I find that optimax does sod all for performance or MPG but does make your engine run a hell of a lot smoother - changing up and down gear and smoother accleration instead of it being jerky. BP superunleaded seems to last longer I found when i had the 1.2 8v but i dont know if this is still the same case.

I found the VTR to go better on Esso Super rather than Optimax. Not really sure why but it seemed it. Ive only used Optimax in the CUP but when I get it back ill try Esso again.

There are no Shell garages near me, so i always fill up with Opimax given the chance when im out and about.

Not sure if i rate BP Ultimate though. Unlike running on Optimax i dont notice the difference over 95.

Does Total do an Otipmax/Ultimate version?

Optimax should be shown 98+ RON.. Tests show that Optimax is at least 98 RON and batches average 100 RON
