Supernatural Vs. Purple Haze (Picture *****age)

  Shed.
Dodo Juice - Supernatural vs. Dodo Juice Purple Haze

The aim was to see if i could justify spending £95 on a pot of wax, or if i should stick to my £40 purple haze which ive been using for the past 5 months. Amungst the dodo juices was Meguirs Gold class liquid wax. A product which i have never tried before, and am still unsure of.

The test currently is about application, removal and finishes. I will add to it once ive seen the durability of them all, and all done on a poverty car.

-----The pictures are not ment to show off the car, only the paintwork. Please forgive the final state of the car as a whole, as i was only concentrating on the paintwork. Also, the car is suffering from minor orbital scratches.

Step 1 - Wash

1 Week without a wash, The car was washed with a ridiculously strong mix of gold class as im running short of shampoo plus, to try strip all the lsp's already on there.

DSC01370.jpg

Washed using gold class and the 2 bucket method, clayed using half a sonus green and gold class as lube, and then washed again with gold class.

And the paint during washing after they claying -

It then began to snow.

Stage 2 - Polishing and Application of waxes.

The car went in the garage and was given a coat of Autoglym Super resin Polish. The Bonnet and front quaters were treated to 2 coats.

Below is a picture of the paintwork with just a coat of srp, with the supernatural wax being applied to the front quater pannel and half of the bonnet. I was origionally going to do Half of the bonnet and the quater, but i ended up doign the entire drivers side of the car with supernatural.

And after -

DSC01391-1.jpg

Due to the level of light in the garage and with it snowing outside, I took no pictures.

The drives side of the car, front drivers quater pannel and drivers side of the bonnet were given a coat of Supernatural. The Passenger side front quater pannel was given a coat of the Gold class Liquid Wax, which i think smells like bubblegum, and the rest of the car coated in Purple Haze.

Opinions -

The supernatural was eazy using the meguirs foam pad, Removal was relativly easy although i did find it needed more buffing than the purple haze did. The finish given was excelent. Paintwork looked like black glass and was smooth to the touch. the picture does it little justice and looks rarther dissapointing compared to what i have witnessed.

DSC01410.jpg

The liquid wax was obviously easy to apply, however removal was more of a challenge than i had expected, with a lot of buffing required to remove the wax. Finish was actually rarther good, and has little difference between the others. Not bad for the price i guess.

The Purple haze which i have been using for a while now, was easy to apply, although not as easy as supernatural, and easy to remove. the finish is good, however it is not as good as the supernatural finish. Durability is okay for this wax.

The half and half on the bonnet, believe me, supernatural on the left is by far the best.

I did the same over at Detailingworld and ended up on my fist buy spending £60 and then my 2 to 5 have all been around the £50 - 70 range lol Tim at cleanyourcar knows me very well lol !

Got to ask whats your thoughts on SRP as im tempted to buy it along with a couple of other AG products in the Halfrauds 3 for 2 deal theve got on ?

lol.

Why oh why did i ever write this thread, This started it all.

I honestly thought id be able to buy some good car products with £15.

Rich has always said its very under-rated. I do agree with him, its the only polish ive ever used, but for hand polishing i figure its pretty good.

Its not abrasive, and its a good filler, so it hides swirl marks. ive been told it has cleaning properties also.

Application is very easy and so is removal. You onlly need a thin layer of the stuff too so a little bottle of it will last for a long time. People slate it because they think its too dusty. but then thats because they apply far too much of the stuff, even on the pictures ive posted, that was too much.

In the olden days, ie, around the time i posted that thread, i used to use srp, and then give it a coat of the Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. I have 2 large bottles of the stuff lying around now because ive stopped using it. Id like to use it but by the time i get round to using it again in summer i intend to have a g220. But ill be getting megs #83, #80, #21 and #7, so egp will be of no use to me.

I could do with rich to come along and post somehting about the product now, im sure hes been thorugh more polishes than i have and could give you a better "review" on the stuff..........

You may as well try it, i like it, Grab some srp, and something else you could find usefull, maybe some bumpercare and some autofresh.

Looks great - like all things wax related you can never tell nuances in the fleash.

Suprised you liked the SRP after seeing the application there - you used far to much ! Did it dust.

Have you used Swissvax Onyx ?

  Shed.
No but i was very very tempted to try the onyx a while back. You tried it before ?

I am guna try the hard four next, really wanna see hard kandy and blue velvet on the car. How much is onyx ?

Srp is great, used it since i first got into all this. It looked a lot but it wasnt as much as youd think, only a thin layer.

  106 GTi
You don't even need to give it a layer as such, better to work it until there is nothing to remove.

Before shelling out 90 quid on the Dodo I would really advise thinking about trying the Onyx. If you really want to spend lots on a wax, I would advise saving longer and getting Swisswax Best of Show.

I have not used the Supernaturual, but can't see it being much different to the Double Wax from what I have read on DW, The Double Wax looked a tad better than Purple Haze, neither come close to a Swissvax finish though for me. The Onyx coming in at Half the price of the Double Wax.

Good write up Mike car looks ace, hard to tell which is best product from pics (all looks good imo) Based on what you have wrote it looks like another good alternative though.

Sounds like your on a car cleaning journey based on link to one of your previous posts !

Satisfying but expensive lol

Oh I also found the megs wax sample harder to remove than I expected.
Think I might have used too much, as I found if difficult to spread lightly with foam applicator but finish seemed very smooth to touch with a nice gloss.

hehe thanks. Yeah ive tried stuff as ive moved along. Sooner or later ill be onto a machine polisher too.

It was like treacle mixed with sand tbh. I hate the stuff. the car has been snowed on twice, and been rained on a few times and covered about 60 miles.

Its all beading still.

Rich - I think i will steer clear of supernatural, i dont think its THAT great, although the finish was good. I may give bos a try. But if i do ill wait untill ive got the rest of my stuff first. CYC bills are getting bigger all the time.

  106 GTi
Why not consider Onyx or Saphir, both come close looks wise, though BOS edges it durability wise.

cannot really decide which one is best tbh. Drability wise theyre all doing okay Still beading JUST. Not as shiney as it was. but hey ho....

First wash. Powerwasher, from a distance might i add. With a very light mix of shampoo plus, foamed up using the powerwasher.

I agree.

Good write up dude, im just getting into this sort of stuff too and it costs a fortune! lol..

Ive even bought a big box/tub thing to put all my cleaning stuff in

  Mito Sportiva 135
Good stuff. I would get the Onyx to begin with, I have it and really is brilliant. If durability is an issue just apply twice as often as BoS! It really does leave a great finish though.
