alrite guys

i am planning on changing my current surround sound setup. i want to keep my original speakers though but the cabling into the back of the player is different.

this is how mine is at present. note how it has 2 cables for each speaker.

Is the second unit above actually an amp as well as the rca's appear just to be analogue outputs to a surround sound unit. You also have digital outputs as well (optical and coaxial) which would also be connected to a separate surround a/v receiver.

As above. The second picture, they are just analogue pre-outs that need running into a multi-channel amplifier. You can't connect speakers directly to those. I'm afraid your first player has an amplifier of sorts built-in, and your new one is a more usual standalone with analogue mutli-channel out. Basically you're fucked, and you're going to have to buy an AV amp.

There is only half a picture on the second one. The speaker outputs will be on the right hand side and will be either the same type of clips you have now or hopefully the better screw type. Nothing to worry about tbh.

What? If it's a standalone player, which it seems to be, it won't have speaker connections.

Looking at how the terminals are placed on the second unit, its not an amp. Looks like a blu-ray standalone player.

WTF????????????

He can hardly use voodoo to turn a standalone Bluray player into a surround sound amp can he. So the only option it to connect the Bluray player to the old dvd/amp via optical cable.

Is that what you meant or have you pissed yourself again?

Erm no lol

The second unit is just a stand alone BD player.

You have a point. Saves splashing out on a new AV receiver.

See EDIT :)

Lewis, Griffs idea is a good spot, and it will give you 5.1 DD & DTS like you get now. If by "full bluray surround" you mean HD audio, then you will definitely need an AV amp.

cheers guys, been thinking about what to do and the optical cable seems the best idea. i already have one as i was using a ps3 to run my blue rays, via surround sound. going to buy another ps3 now and use the optical cable like i have in the past. i was thinking about a new setup but ive just got it how i want it and am happy with the sound.
