Today I was replacing the trackrods on my 172 and noticed that when going from lock to lock that the strut moves forwards and backwards in the top mount aswell as rotating.

Is this designed into the top mount to induce more caster on full lock (increases -ve camber ?) or just because of the flex in the top mounting ?

If you fit solid top mounts like Mark Fish makes does this stop it happening or does this movement go through the spherical bearing ?

Also on the Koni or standard strut the spring coil is offset to one side and on coilovers the spring is central around the strut , is the distance from the center line drawn through the strut to the bolt holes that go on the hub the same on both ? if it was different does it effect the scrub radius and the steering weight ?

Or have I gone off at the wrong direction lol
