Suspension Overkill??

  172 cup
Evening all.

Just after people's opinions.
I'm just about to carry out a suspension refresh on my cup.
Going to fit new complete wishbones, new TRE's, new inner rods, new dampers front and rear, new steering rack bushes, new eibach sportlines and new polybush inner and outer ARB bushes.

It's already got polybushed dogbone mount and solid engine and gearbox mounts.

My question is if I fit the PMS solid top mounts/strutbrace combo will it make the front end too just to firm/hard??
Will I be better off with just OEM top mounts??

Thanks in advance
Paul.

I can't talk from experience as I don't have the PMS kit, bit I will share what I've read on here...

The PMS kit on a standard car will induce more under steer as it stiffens up the front too much. However this can be balanced out with the use of the whiteline RARB.

So, maybe get it and be prepared to buy the whiteline, or replace with standard!

Like I said though, this is only from what I've read on here.

I had uprated mounts on my mk6.5 zetecs worst thing ever. i had them with the spax psx adjustable damping shocks even on the softest setting it was horrid on a bumpy road even slightly bumpy it was the worst modification ever, i blame the shocks more than the mounts but I can say itll handle well but itll be stiff if its a daily driver i wouldn't bother id get normal new ones if ur really into giving it the beans everywhere get the uprated ones

I have a 172 Cup and have just fitted new front shocks and the PMS solid mounts and brace. I would highly recommend them. I fitted the shocks about 4 weeks before fitting the mounts. Since fitting the mounts i have noticed improved grip and a sharper turn in. There was the fear of a much harsher ride with the solid mounts but i must say i cant notice much difference at all compared to the old original mounts.

I havent taken my car out on track yet but it is something im planning to do in the future, however i see no reason to not have the this setup on a fast road car, and combined with your other refresh work you car should handle amazingly well if you current items/bushings are a bit worn.

Next step for me will be to do anti-roll bar bushes and streering rack bushes.

The only thing that put me off the PMS kit was the increased road/suspension noise it created.

Awesome bit of kit though.

While i am getting on with the PMS kit now, when i had it fitted without a cage, rear strut & rear ARB it induced quite a considerable amount of understeer. Its an excellently made piece of kit and now i've sorted out the rear of the car i'm loving it. The turn in you get with the kit is awesome!
