Swapping the hubs?....

Whats actually involved in this? How hard is it? etc?

Basically im in the dilemma of having the 52mm hub spacing and wanting some cheap and cheerful coilovers, so I'm looking at swapping the hubs to a suitable replacement.

haha, make it sound so easy.

Through searching other things came up regarding driveshafts, ABS, track rod, etc saying some of this stuff will need replaced as well yet some say just hubs (may as well upgrade the brakes at the same time) and I guess it kinda confused me. Is any of this a problem or is it the latter?

2 bolts on the callipers (18mm)
1 Bolt on the ball joint, (17mm), 1 nut (17mm)
2 Shock bolts (18mm), 2 nuts (18mm)
4 Wheel bolts (17mm/19mm)

Hub nut (30mm)
Track Rod nut (17mm)

i did the whole haul because i didnt know if just the hubs would be enough.
But i measured while i had all the parts off the car, and everything seemed to measure up for a straight hub swap.

Depends if you have studs or bolts though!

oh be quiet

ahem, clios use wheel BOLTS, and i remove the ball joint the easy way, yours is the hard way ;)

dnt know what youre talking about

also i assume you mean taking the ball jount off the wishbone with the 2 bolts underneith?? i never found this very easy with the driveshaft in the way, and you still need to split the 2 if you just want to do a hub swap, so neer!

depending on how carefully you take the old stuff off, nothing will NEED replacing! (though it may be wise to do so!)
also if you have 52mm bolt spacing, surely you dont have ABS??

Yeh I don't. Is just what I read about the 58mm hub originally having ABS and there being a thread where this might be a problem, that's all. Was just wanting a clear and concise answer rather than having all these different threads which have one thing and another.

Now to throw a spanner in this, would it be worth the hassle or just to stump up the extra and buy VMaxx's?

nope, abs sensors dont get in the way, take them out if you can,
otherwise just cut as much as you can off and leave it (i had to do this for one side!)

depending on how much rokkors go for nowdays, and how big a factor the money is!!
its a really easy conversion, all you need is a socket set, a 17 and 18mm spanner,
a jack, and a single axle stand. (this is just to change the hubs, youll need to bleed the brakes if you do them!)

Yeh i won't be swapping the brakes I don't think. Me and my mate will have the tools and that it was the way he was explaining and then searching through here just really confused me!

I guess I'll just have to wait and see how much I can get the hubs for i suppose.
