Switching insurance comps Q.

  Mk1 MX-5 next summer
Hello,

my mum has offered to put me as a named driver on her mini while there away for a few weeks over easter and then in the summer.

The comp she is currently with she pays £400 with fully comp but they said its would rise to £1000+ to put me on for god knows what reason.

i did a few quotes with tesco etc etc with me on there and they came to £450-600 odd sooo i want her to switch if poss but will she have to pay an extra £450 with the new comp or does it transfer, oooor will we just have to wait until the current policy is up.

I'm gonna ring next few days with other quotes to try drive them down anyway but i could do with it in the next few weeks so i can use it while there away. I'm at uni most of the year too so i'll only be using it a few times a year.

Nice one.

But if she has like 20 years add anyway will it make a difference.

You saying best bet would be wait until the policy is up for renewal.

Ok well i'll do some research...

Also as she's paid £400 and maybe got 6 months or something left will she have to pay another £450 on the new one and therefor lose the money on the first one?

If she cancels it into the policy they'll give back what is left minus an 'admin fee' how much the fee will be is anyones guess though.

I got temporary insurance on my dad's policy for a month. Not sure if all insurers do it though.

How much was it mate.

Thing is if its not much less then £50 or so then i can just pay the little extra and be on in full time.

Who is he with.

cancellation fees are usually rediculous. 6 months into a £400 premium I wouldnt be suprised if she only gets £100 back.

I was paying £60 a month but then cancelled my policy just after I had paid for the upcoming month and got £70 odd quid back, Dunno how that worked though.

Norwich Union mate, cost £80 for the month (bearing in mind I've held my license for under a year and am 19, this was on a 57 plate 1.4)
