Syncro, Mounts or Linkages?

Did my first trackday yesterday so I wasn't particually abusive to the car as I was a total novice. I blipped on down changes and didn't shift too quick on the ups. The car was fine on the 3 hour drive back home but when I nipped out in it today it ever so slightly crunches while downshifting into 3rd even when I match the revs first.

Is this the dreaded 3rd syncro or could it be somthing like a mount or linkage problem? Any other suggestions welcome!!

Anyone? I'm thinking of changing the gearbox oil to the castrol epx stuff as its got some comma stuff in it at the moment or am I clutching at straws here??!!

bugger!! Just dont get why it was fine all day yesterday and on the way home! Does it go on downchanges first then? Smooth as silk on the up atm.

hi mate same thing happened with my gearbox, the syncro is on its way out but buy some gearbox oil and get it changed reno only charged 15quid, and it makes a bigg difference.

You changed the oil recently didnt you, sounds like its slowly on its way out. Will be fine for ages though.

Yeah was only cheap comma stuff though. Was just wondering if the castrol stuff would make any difference or would I just be wasting £20?

Well i thought what the heck and changed the oil anyway.The comma oil that was in there was the blackest ive ever seen!

Its been in there for 10,000 odd miles but I was really suprissed with the state of it.

I havn't taken the car for a spin yet but i'm hopeful that I can eek a little more life out of the box!

sounds like engine mount could have moved to me making linkage position slightly different, try moving the drivers mount as far forward as poss with dogbone disconnected then bar the engine back to refit db bolt? If not proberly 3rd gear syncro knackered.

New oil has stopped it when the engines warm but it still does it slightly when cold. One thing ive noticed is when the cars is in gear I can move the gearstick about an inch foward and back before a resistance is felt. What would be casuing this?
