system memory- how to clear some

i've just in stalled an old game, cos i'm bored! but it wont start, saying there is not enough system memory. how do i free some up? is this the same as RAM?

Type dxdiag into the run box from the start menu and type up results and also requirements for game (on box).

game requirements are win 95/98, P133 and 16Meg or Ram,
i'm running a Duron 2600+ plus a gig of RAM!!

that dxdiag says, i have 2262 meg of page ram available, but taht i'm running DX9, and that the game wants to use dx7 is this why?

You on windows XP?

If so probably XP being stupid try installing the game using the compatability mode. Then runnign it with the compatability mode.

If that dont work its kinda tough really. Some older games just refuse to run under XP.
