Tail's DCi 100.

Hello all,

Some of you may know that I've been on the look out for a good, high spec DCi clio due to a long distance relationship, since my 1.4 16v ph1 wasn't really cutting the mustard. Yesterday, my luck paid out, and this is what I have landed myself with!

My 1.5 DCi 100 Dynamique, A few quick pictures after getting it home:

^ Notice the addition of a cone filter on the bay, and the awful attempt at cutting the engine cover for it.

Spec:
  • 1.5 Dci 100, Dynamique spec, with Electric sunroof and Climate control as optional extras
  • 74,000 Miles
  • 4 new Avon tyres all round,
  • 4 new brake pads all round,
  • 2 new front discs,
  • New battery,
  • Decent service history, is coming up to its next one.
  • Colour coded back, front, and side bumpstrips
Now for the not so good:

Slight paintwork correction needed, big gash on the bonnet:

tumblr_mq4iq7lwNm1qc5wvyo1_500.png

Link has gone on the Anti-roll bar, that'll be a job for the weekend (a common problem with a cheap fix as I understand):

tumblr_mq4iq7lwNm1qc5wvyo7_500.jpg

and the worst part by far: The belts haven't been done. But at least I know I can take it to a specialist on here and be totally happy with them. I know they're 2k overdue already, but the insurance change over cleared me out a bit more than I was expecting, and my old shed hasn't even gone up for sale yet, So that'll have to wait for pay day.

Plans:
  • ENJOY THE LOWER FUEL BILLS.
  • Just changed over the rear plate bulb for LED, will get a picture when it's dark.
  • Belts,
  • Calipers are currently painted red - Will change this for either black or yellow,
  • Tidy up the interior
  • Cup spoiler/ Dynamique spoiler respray,
  • Bonnet respray,
  • 182 steering wheel with Snappy retrim,
  • Remap,
  • Cruise Control retrofit,
  • Wrapped Diamonds,
  • Tidy up the bay,
  • and since this is my first car with Metallic paint, I really want to use this to start practicing some Detailing work, so a Damn good clean!
  • RS interior
  • Update ICE a little
  • Xenons (+Headlight refurb)
  • Possibly 172 rep may be on the cards, we'll see how it pans out.
  • LED upgrades
Theres a few other idea's floating around in my head, nothing will really kick off for the first month or two until I start getting some money flowing back in.

I hope to be updating this as much as I can! :D

Remap - Top idea.

Love these little motors.

That's probably what I'm looking forward to most. Once some of the maintenance stuff is out of the way, I'm looking forward to pushing about 115bhp and getting rid of the torque limiter to bring me up to like 185lb/ft. just need to find somewhere suitable near me to get the map done.

First diesel car I've driven, done a blast to work and back now on the motorway and all I can say is; this thing pulls like a train! when it gets on to boost at 2k it makes overtaking a dream -effortless. And not seen below 60mph!

f**k that cone filter off! Heat stroke will decrease HP

Certainly will be doing that soon enough. Will look at options for cold air feeds and the like - never had a diesel so I have some reseach to do. Will probably be doing a weekend of engine bay work, as it's possible my dad will be helping me do the Belts myself (only a possibility, lots to look in to first).

First Drive impressions are good, the boost is a beauty on motorways and i'm not sure how I lived without it! tap of throttle at 60/70 and you just get a surge. The only negative thing I can say, is the gear selection feels a little "notchy" but that could just be down to it being a Cable selector. Obviously the main thing is the Fuel consumption, and this is my average on my usual weekend commute from Kent to Bristol:

tumblr_mqaj0zDh1V1qc5wvyo1_500.jpg

Obviously very happy with that, double my old car! That was even with being stuck in crap M25 rush hour traffic, some stop start, giving it some boot on the M4 and playing with the boost, and city driving through Bristol city center.

Plans for this coming week:
  • Ordering the link kit for the anti roll bar, will be doing both sides at the same time
  • got some carbon wrap to play with
  • new plate bulb

Timing belt on these are a peice of piss! Lock the crank, line up pump with bolt and lock camshaft. Done. Hanes manual for these in halfrauds

Okay, first update of some variety, despite there not being a lot to update (especially seeing as I do not have the car at the moment).

Had some carbon wrap to play around with, did the usual, will get around to front and rear diamonds with it too.

LED number plate light, just as a small bit of tidying up:

Then first bit of drama, a lovely puncture:

Got that repaired for Free thanks to a voucher sent to me on here! £12 a year really does pay off...

Set up a day with my dad to get some work done in terms of mechanical stuff, got the anti-roll bar pins replaced on both sides, need a little tightening, but it's improved the handling a lot.
1375731345881.jpg

And the cambelt change is where s**t hit the fan. We managed to change the Aux belt, after giving up trying to un-do the bolt on the crankshaft pulley which was Impossible.
I gave the car to a family friend who everyone trusts with their car, went to work after seeing him make some outstanding progress in just 2 hours, come back, and he shows me this:

tumblr_mrhi635cMC1qc5wvyo1_500.png

Not the best thing I wanted to see, so off it was to renault after Adam @ Wolverhampton had been the greatest help with advice etc, I can only wish there were more people like him in the world, top class bloke.

996911_10151615525553233_1046492812_n.jpg

Obviously where the tensioner had been taken off and put back on, there was no way to determine if it was badly fitted or a faulty product (according to my mechanic friend, he says its down to there being no belt to tension it against). By this time I'd already blown over £200 on towing and the inspection fees and was losing my rag over not having the car. Gave up with renault, bit the bullet and got it down to somewhere local for a head refurbishment and everything needed just to get it back into good condition, at £950 for the whole job, I just put it down to bad luck and something to learn from (Which I really, really will.) Obviously this isnt an ideal situation, and I'm not 100% knowledgeable on the job itself, so I've just taken it as an experience to learn from.

Then, I got a call from this place with more bad news. Obviously my mechanic friend had lied to me about it idling when the belt threw, as the piston had knock the valve with enough force to crack the camshaft caps clean in two. Up goes the bill to £1650. Then my sister admits she heard him revving the nuts off it straight after fitting it. Not exactly a good Omen this car so far, but s**t happens, and you've got to move through it. Currently waiting on a head to be delivered to them tomorrow, then it will be re-skimmed and refurbished before being thrown on the car. Not the kind of bill I want to see at 19 for a car, but my family have been incredibly supportive and I can't thank them enough.

Obviously a bill that big is putting a slow on my plans! But hopefully this weekend I should have my first set of detailing gear (and the car back) so I can give it a good clean.

In much better (unrelated) news, Some of you may have seen that I have a new job! I have been offered 1 of 8 places as an apprentice Prototype mechanic in fords development plant in Dagenham. It's the chance of a lifetime and I'm over the moon about it, shame I have the bad luck of the car to put a damper on it. I'll try my best not to trade it in for a blue oval for at least a few years now ;)

So so so jealous of that mpg :( I need myself a DCI.

best part of the car by far. Had over 75mpg on a careful run, looking for higher once the engine refurb is done, plus maybe a remap in future, hopefully looking about 80mpg on long runs? and nice and quiet on the motorways, no drone like my 1.4.

Thats just a money saver. Its insane how high mpg you can reach on these. Small car, easy on fuel, cheap tax and insurance!

  Clio 197
Good to see something a bit different (Dci) - you have been a bit unlucky so far with the belts etc ..... That mpg must give you a warm fuzzy feeling though, brill! :)

It's not surprising more and more people are going for these. With a Remap they come out with more torque than a 172. Right little fun cars, easy enough to mod and improve, and £30 a year to tax.

Just can't wait to get it back and get on with it.

  dCi 100
Omg seeing this made my day. Ive got a dci 100 as well. Same colour as well :L. Even better that my name is Adam and im from Wolverhampton :p. I'm always about Derby and Bristol for work so we'd have to sort out a meet sometime!

Lol! Nice one, will be interesting to see which directions we both go for. I'm in bristol on weekends usually! Lots of work needs doing before I start showing it off at meets haha.

Just ordered:
Dodo juice - Born to be Mild
AF Tripple
C2v3
Drying towel and wash mitt.

First time detailing anything, will be getting on with that this weekend, soon will start looking in to new bonnets since mine is shagged. (ideally need a front bumper respray too)

So, No car back as of yet. Was told this afternoon, but when I called them, they said they were in the final stages of getting it all back on the car. Have been told tomorrow if all goes well, if not tuesday.

Bit annoying, as all this arrived today!

IMAG0183.jpg

As soon as its back, will be giving it my first detail (after running to morrisons to pick up some wonder wheels).

Still no Car back yet, will be Tuesday at the earliest :(

Popped in to the garage to see how it was doing and dropped off a few beers to the guys working on the car as a good will gesture. Head was on and car was running, which was a good sign! They were saying it had no throttle the day before, so progress is progress. Got to see the old camshaft too, can really see how bent it was!

Only thing is its now throwing up the Glow plug light on the dash, and the air con Pipes that should be ice cold are too hot to touch, so there's still faults floating around needing to be sorted.

Elm light will be injectors if they didn't put them back in the same order they came out of.

s**t news about the cambelt, the tensioner looks to be smashed off as I'm guessing it was stuck on the block.

Revving the nads off it didn't do much help either with the belt probs being too loose.

Guessing the valve buckets got totalled aswell?

Hopefully they figure that out, or I might just let them know, theyre saying no fault codes are coming up though.

Tell me about it! Live and learn really. Whole new head refurb with new camshaft, valves and refurbed guides is what ive been told is being done!

I don't think injectors the wrong way around will fault code, it'll be spurious codes that don't show.
Either that or you now have a damaged injector from the head getting a beating

Update:

Alas! I have the car back. With a refurbished head thrown on, all timed up, and a new cambelt, at last :)

Spent this evening giving it a quick detail, Never done it before So I'm quite happy with the result!

IMAG0008.jpg

Also on the way is this:

71N82F6RJWL._SL1500_.jpg
Nice update to my current one, bluetooth etc. Be easy to make hands free calls when I'm on the road so much.

Next on the agenda (after recovering from the rebuild, and a road trip this weekend) will be cruise control retrofit, remap, and it seems likely I'll be swapping my interior for an RS set from a member on here in the coming months!

Happy days! Shes back and running well i hope.
Looks like a good HU too. Keep at it, mate looking forward to see this coming along.

Thanks very much mate! Running fine for now, will be testing the MPG staying the same/ improving over the weekend. Gotta take it back after the weekend for some extra checks.

Head unit is here, got it for a proper bargain since amazon warehouse had one that had been opened and repackaged for £100.

More progress soon I hope! and a few more pictures from the detail:

Do these have rear drums or calipers? The detail looks class, black is an unreal colour but so hard to keep clean.

Calipers on the 100, anything lower is drums. (need to get around to painting the calipers, previous owner had them red.)

  Renault Clio DCI 100
Liking this man and love how its already colour coded! I've got a DCI 100 aswell and also agree with the notchy gear changes so going to get gearbox oil changed just incase.

Will keep looking at updates :D

So! Headunit is in! Not a fan of electrics, lots of blood sweat and not being able to feed cables through.

Headunit in, paired with phone, cables all plugged in and away. Have a USB cable running through to the glovebox for the missus iPod and for charging my phone if need be.

536808_10151651058563233_352245444_n.jpg

Then, cable run under the steering column, up the pillar, and to the microphone.

tumblr_mskgaukoD51qc5wvyo2_500.png

Headunit itself is ace one you're used to it and its set up. Streams from my phone easily, really good output and adjustable EQ settings.

One good part is the backlight for the buttons/ dial and screen are lit seperately. You can pick from a Ton of colours for each, have it scroll through them all, or set them both to the same (like I have with blue). Really handy if you havent quite decided your interior colour scheme yet :)

Nice work dude, I need to get bluetooth in mine really with all the work miles I'm doing. Not quite this simple though.

If you want a few pics taking of the car let me know and I'll meet you in bluewater with a tripod and camera?

Also, I'm going away so would love to use those discounts if that's still cool?

Can already see the bluetooth being a life saver, even down to changing tracks from my phone on the HU rather than reaching for the dock and unlocking the phone (Will be setting up the stalk soon too) then phonecalls etc.

Yeah would be cool mate, first will need another clean and some other bits done, but might have to take you up on the offer in the near future!

Yes mate, drop me a PM. Tomorrow is your best chance!

Update! Thanks to Billy and his mate, we (they) managed to fit all of this today!

tumblr_msxcx69VyB1qc5wvyo1_500.png

So both interiors out, both back in to the opposing car. Just gotta clean mine up, some love to the leather, give it a hoover, and sort out the airbag connection for the passenger seat at work this week. Tidy! C&C welcome as always.

Next up, another detail hopefully, then who knows!
Maybe headlights, cruise, or a remap!

getting there! keep the upgrades oem, springs next!

Thats definitely the plan! OEM as possible, maybe a few tweaks here and there.

I do need to look in to springs in the future, but I love it as a comfort-mobile! My commute at work has just gone from 5-10mins up to about half an hour each way now, plus me driving to and from Bristol every weekend.

I'd love to lower it, but I need to find some springs that won't ruin the ride quality too much! less for performance in terms of handling, more for comfort and appearance!

Just wired the orange-orange and brown-brown cables since they had none of the plastic connectors, still got an airbag light. Anyone got any bright ideas on how to solve?

Cheers for the heads up rob, will take a look!

Is it both seats you're struggling with? iirc there's quite a few more wires under the seats than just that. It's not too hard to find diagrams (they've been posted on here) that should allow you to connect everything up with bullet/spade connectors or even connector blocks and hope the problem goes away.

This is how me and a friend in 2nd year of our apprenticeship attempted it:

tumblr_mszaevn0T21qc5wvyo1_500.jpg

Not the best picture, but just basic connectors. I have a feeling it will be the resistance that is the problem, Iirc anything over 4Ohms is recorded as the airbag having gone off.

Well, I just happened to have picked up these!

IMAG0567.jpg

Quickly threw some C2v3 on them as some basic protection, will get them on when I can get some ramp time at work :)

In other news, need to investigate some knocking when braking, need to take a look at the ARB or maybe ABS rings.
