Taking a 172 on track... worth upgrading anything?

Have a weekend on track booked and have decided to take the 172.

Anything I should upgrade, adjust/change (its done 70k) or any problems I might expect??

Car is standard apart eibach sportlines, will have new discs pads and pilot tyres.

cheers

I'm guessing it'll be your first time on a track. Standard car will be fine mate.

I doubt most people on here have reached the car's limit for any period of time, you have to be really comitted to do that on any car.

Just try and relax, take the racing line slowly to start with and build up your speed gradually as you learn the track layout, what track is it btw?

  cock mobile.
Standard pads won't last long without fade, I'd get something that would resist fade a bit longer.

Cheers for the replys

*Yep cambelts been done.i think!! :)

*Was going to have an oil change done before I go.

*No, been on track a few time (also have an Elise) but this is the first in the clio @ the Ring.

So drive it and dont worry about camber bolts, induction kits, exhausts, brake fluid, hoses etc etc??

those are all things u could do if u wished and would make the car a little better but u dont need them!!

as ling as u hav decent discs and pads to reduce brake fade and as u said new tyres the car is good to go!! and they are surprisingly good as standard on track too

Tell you what - I'm not saying thats incorrect but I was very surprised at how well my totally standard brakes held out at Donington the other day - not a hint of fade & they worked superbly throughout the sessions!!!

not been out on track in mine yet but have a reasonable amount of track experience and am looking forward to getting on again.

general concensus appears to be that they're well up to the job in standard trim - there are one or two on here who have racked up an impressive number of track days in theirs, seemingly without major complaint.

only modification i might consider with mine is brake fluid/hoses/front discs&pads - depends how i get on with the std kit though. the suspension and the drivetrain are apparently up to the job, although i'm a bit dubious about the engine mounts and the gear shift meself.

you're off to the 'ring then? are you taking any sneeky video footage?

Got away with the video last year so will take it again...

Great place as long as you treat it with a little respect! spinning in the wet always slows you down though!

Change oil + filter
Brake fluid + braided lines make sure they got life in them
trye pressures
Coolant etc..
make sure engine is in good running codition

probably lots have been mentioned already but thats what id do

Make sure the cars in good condition forget any mods yet until you decide what you want the car stock is very well setup.

Not really. Just up your pressures a wee bit if your new to this.

You'll be leanin on the brakes alot, so fade will be your only pitfall.
Mind and take your towin eye.
