Having PC'd my car a while back, as well as having the whole front end resprayed last summer, i was really happy with the condition of my paint.

Of course, then i was due some sh*t luck... i got a biiiiiig stonechip at the weekend. :dapprove:

Chipsaway came out today to give a "professional estimate"

His "professional estimate" consisted of sucking air through his teeth a few times, before telling me to get the panel resprayed. Nice one. :dapprove:

I've read a few guides about applying the paint with a needle, wet-sanding and then correcting with a PC. All of which i'm sure i could do with practice... but i'm not willing to try myself. Not on my car at least.

I'll get a picture up tomorrow, but i'm wondering if anyone has any contacts on DW that can repair stonechips. The paint has been broken, and there is a small dent, too.

I will get the dent pushed out from inside, before the paint repair. Any contacts\mobile repairer details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I'd say it's 100mm up from the bottom edge, and 200mm from the centre crease of the bonnet.

There's no bracing obstructing the dent behind, so it can be pushed out, luckliy.

kk. Fire a post on DW. Someone may be able to help. But it won't be perfect.

No chips away place will touch in things on bonnets, mainly as there crap repairs will look even worse than normal, so as a rule they wont do them. It is impossible to blend them in up there as it is so in your face. So a touch up pen and sand is the only way apart from a re-spray.

The fact that there is a dent and the paint is cracked you will find it hard to get a PDR guy to take the risk on it.

Finding a good local detailer is your best bet on the chip touch up.

Bonnet paint mate would look fine.
If it's close to the centre of the bonnet you colour to the wings will be fine.
4hours labour
£50-60 paint materials. Job's a good un'
Don't f**k about with it mate.

if you fill it in yourself then clean the chip out first it up properly with some ipa, then use a tooth pick, but when I did mind on racing blue it never looked right close up but I didn't ywet sand it,

Possibly sorted by a local detailer/repairer.

Paint fill > Wet-sand > Correction.

Fingers crossed!

Yep! The chap's been out to assess it, and says he can repair and correct it, up to 90%. If i'm not totally happy, he won't charge me. It's a quarter of the cost of a good spray, too.

Can't say fairer than that can you?

Aye, fingers crossed mate. I toyed with doing it myself, but i don't trust myself with sanding... just yet!

i tried it on me mum's car first. You fell dead proud when its done tbh!! lol

Problem with Rb is that when you assess it , inspite of any damage it looks diff colours in diff lights all the time. Garage forecourt is the best

Definitely mate. It looks purple under neon lights. Mad!

Fingers crossed that this guy lives up to his reputation. He was recommended by one of the biggest supporters on DW.

Yep. But the stuff i'm getting is cheaper quality. I.e will come off! 70£ for the bumper instead of 210£ from Amourfend.

Yip! Am getting mine Armourfended this time!

my bumper was sprayed in oct, full of holes already (dont actually think it was that good a job as wheels are the same :( )

getting mine laminated by the same business that did dad's audi, hopefully get a discount. bumper and bonnet once i am happy with the lack of swirls lol

Some kind soul put a 8" scratch down the side of the black works van:dapprove:

I decided to get the Vauxhall touch up pen, selection of 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 Megs Unigrit wet/dry papers, some IPA, cocktail sticks and 000 artists brushes.

A few hours later and you couldnt even see where it had been scratched. :approve:

Then decided to get the Honda touch up pen and tackle the stone chip to the leading edge of the CTR bonnet. Like Chris's this had dented slightly just locally.

Over a week, I built up 4 or 5 layers of paint to 'fill' the chip and left it proud to be sanded back. Sanded it back, then polished up by hand and must admit its a massive improvement, and for how much? About a tenner.:)
Two more applications of touch up should fill the 'crater' thats left so it can be finished truly flush.

My bonnet got 'egged' (Panther Black Fiesta ST) and I had a 'horse shoe' sized hole in the paint, which had gone through the clearcoat and paint down to primer and metal in some places!!

I filled it last week with a touch up pen from Ford, wet sanded using Megs 2500 then 4000 Grit with their backing pad, then used my PC to remove the sanding marks with 3.02, then refined with PO85RD.

It's gone!! You can't even see it now!! Easy enough too, you just need big cahunas to sand paper you car!!

I can help out if you don't get it sorted.

Russ.
