  Ford Fiesta ST mk8
Over the years I've had a 182 FF, 172 Cup and back in 2013 had a low mileage clio 200 Silverstone edition, which I only had for around 6 months before selling due to buying my 1st house.

Fast forward 10 years! And I've had 4 Fiesta ST's! First a Mk7, then an ST2 Mk8 followed by a Mk8 performance edition (really awesome car with around 260 bhp Mountune kit on it) followed by my current Mk7 in spirit blue, currently stage 2, 240 bhp with bags of grunt, only 29k miles, 66 plate and just a fun motor.

And yet I keep looking at Autotrader at bloody Clio 200's! The thing is price wise they seem to be around the same for equivalent mileage but the Fiestas are obviously newer, the Fiestas are half the price for tax, mine does 38 mpg, would leave a 200 standing still and chassis wise can dance every bit as good as the Clios.

Someone tell me why not to get an old expensive Clio!

The fact you've posted that, tells you something. ;)

Slower. Older. Bummed harder for the VED. Yet you're still considering it.

Some things don't always make sense to want them.

Well, you are here tbf and thinking of getting a 200 so you can't be all bad. In all seriousness, have you considered a Meganne 250/265 etc?
Yeah but I was a renaultsport fan way before I liked the ST's;) no doubt the Meganne RS/ Focus ST ect are quicker and can make big power but I just prefer the Clios/ Fiestas as they just feel more raw and go kart like, always something faster about but ain't much that can handle like a 197/ 200 or the ST!

Good luck with the hunt! Stick around even if you don't end up with a 200. Nice active forum, nice ppl. Unfortunately we have a few ST owners here too but you can't have it all 🤣

@Cardboard Idealist has a nice pink one with stock badges he has a good thread somewhere which is a worthy read. 👍

The one thats really got my eye is a Black 200 currently at Hudson specialist cars, 58k miles, very good history, Ktec suspension refresh, just had the cambelt changed and most importantly a Akrapovic Evolution exhaust that sounds biblical.
They've offered me decent money on my ST but I'd only be getting around a grand cash my way for a car thats older, double the mileage, slower, worse on fuel, double the tax and sadly doesn't even have the Recaros.... I'd be mad to do it lol

Get one. But splurge & get a LY one.

Colour will make you feel better about the bills.
I do respect your reckless impulsiveness. Only problem is that there's hardly any decent ones for sale, there's more 2016 ST3's & ST2's on autotrader than clio 172/182/197&200's from all the year's there were produced

No one said it was easy.

Try getting a Megane RS its no better. Cup-S was sold for a year and only 100 sold. Its laughable how limited they were. Ford probably knocked out a couple of thousand focus RS in same period.

Yeah and that brings it's own problems with getting spares, according to how many are left there were roughly 1900 clio 200's made vs 26000 Fiesta ST mk7 just in the U.K

Duno why they'd bash the ST, great car's that have a similar feel to the old 172 cup, just a more modern version
I promise that its all light hearted humour, same as you would get over on Passion Ford if I were to bring up Clio vs ST.

Interesting that you mention there being lots of Fiesta ST's available, I've found the opposite in that there might be lots available but they all seem to be CAT cars where the Clios are rarer but fewer seem to have been crashed.

Yeah bit that's because the Clio's are slower, harder to crash something that's slower;)

Being serious for a moment, if I had to pick a car to drive to work everyday (my only car) it would be the Fiesta hands down. If its a car for track days and Sundays it would be the Clio without question.

Definitely a factor and they were still making mk7 ST out to 2017 whereas Clio 200 done by 2013.

Always considering Fiesta ST. Originally I was Mk7 and had a look at an ST200 4 years ago ( probably less £ than it would ne now). But now I look at Mk8 Perfomance Edition for around £20-22k. But then I think just go all in and get a Mean Green 23 plate for £25k and bask in warranty and low running costs.

I imagine a 200 bhp 1100kg Fiesta is not far off the pace of a Meg 275 with 275 bhp and 1400kg.

Power to weight down a little but torque to weight probably bang on.

Keep the fiesta and buy a clio. Sell the Clio and keep the fiesta. Job done. I daily a 200 or a 182 depending on which one is broken / awaiting parts and I'm pretty sure the fiesta would do a better job. Until that 1am journey home and the clios at full chat are fantastic.

The Performance Edition is fantastic, I had a Mk8 ST2 for a few months, missed the leather seats and so other things, kept looking on Autotrader at ST3's when I had the stupid idea of going all out on a Performance Edition that was nearby, had the full Mountune M260 kit with all the hardware that cost the previous owner £3000, s**t off a shovel quick. I need a cheaper hobby.

That's the thing, the ST is brilliant especially with the upgraded turbo actuator from Collins performance that's needed as part of the CP2-E map, holds the boost all the way past 7k revs. BUTTT, as good as the ST is I just remember the 200 I had just being that bit sharper, a little bit more challenging to drive quickly, the Fiestas are so easy to drive, clutch is light, brakes are great, steerings nicely weighted, brilliant for day to day driving but on a great road the Clio is even better.

Why not a Rs Megane? Can't fault my R26 but would definitely consider the 250 /265. They are more refined and are on a different league to a tuned ST. Less common also

I can't comment on Clio vs ST as I've never had or driven a Clio, but I went from an RS250 Cup to my ST and I actually prefer the ST.

My RS250 was significantly quicker than the stock ST, but now that I'm up to ~240bhp (Collins CP2-E as well), the ST is the quicker car (though obviously you could tune the RS250 as well).

Over the sort of roads I drive (Norfolk b-roads), the Fiesta is so much more fun to drive and never feels like it's too much. The Megane felt much more at home on track than it did on my local roads.

I can relate to than. My R26 is mapped to 260 bhp and feels very capable down a twisty Road, especially with decent tyres and the Lsd. Fun vs 'too' capable is a real thing. I'm looking at Golf R as a new daily soon and know that it will be a lot less fun than my Megane but also a lot more capable.

I had a full fat 200 with Recaros years ago and recently felt an itch for another one but felt disappointed in the power department. However the handling and composure is impressive vs a ST.

Do you want a sharp and clinical 200 that has to be push hard to get it close to it's limit? Or stick with an ST that will be a lot more lairy and frantic? Both great fun, both sit at the top of the class for these sort it hot hatches.
